Use SEOmatic inside Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and Gemini
Updated
What you can do from your assistant#
- Ask about your own Google data: "How did my site do on Google this month?" or "Which keywords am I close to page 1 for?"
- Run an audit of your pages, check if a page is indexed, or see how ChatGPT and Claude mention your brand.
- Look up keyword volumes, search results and backlinks.
- On a paid plan or trial, stage fixes for your site and approve them right in the chat.
Answers come from the workspace you connect, the same data your agents use. Connect Google Search Console first so answers use your real clicks and impressions. See connect Google Search Console.
Connect your assistant#
- In SEOmatic, open Settings and click the Integrations tab.
- On the Use SEOmatic in your AI assistant card, click Copy prompt. The button changes to Copied ✓. The Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and Gemini buttons copy the same prompt.
- Open a new chat in your assistant, paste the prompt and send it. Assistants that can change their own settings, like Claude Code or Cursor, set it up for you. Claude and ChatGPT reply with the steps: in their Settings, under Connectors, add a custom connector with the address
https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp. - When the Authorize page opens, check that it shows the right email. Pick your site in Workspace to connect and click Approve.
- Start a new chat, open the tools menu and make sure SEOmatic is switched on for that chat. This is the step most people miss.
- Ask your first question. Back in SEOmatic, the card now says Connected to followed by your assistant's name.
Only the account owner sees the Integrations tab
If you are an Admin, Member or Viewer, you do not need the tab. Add a custom connector in your assistant with the address https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp, then approve it on the SEOmatic page that opens. Steps for each assistant are in the MCP setup guide.
What each plan allows#
| Your plan | Questions | Fixes from the chat |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 5 a month, plus one-time bonus questions | No |
| Trial, Launch, Scale or Infrastructure | No limit. Answers that look up keyword, search result or backlink data use AI credits | Yes, staged for approval |
| Paused, card declined or plan ended | Counted like the Free plan: 5 a month | No |

How free questions are counted#
- One message, one question. Lookups your assistant makes within 90 seconds of each other count as one question, up to 5 lookups.
- Your own data is free. Only keyword, search result and backlink lookups count. Search Console data, audits of your pages and other reads of your own site never use a question.
- Monthly reset. You get 5 questions each calendar month. They come back on the 1st.
- Bonus questions. On the Free plan you get 10 extra questions the first time you connect an assistant, and 10 more the first time you connect Search Console. Bonus questions are kept until you use them and are spent after your monthly 5. You can hold up to 25 unused bonus questions.
- Your count. The assistant card in Settings > Integrations shows how many free questions are left this month.
- When you run out, your assistant tells you what to do next. If Search Console is not connected yet, it offers the 10 bonus questions for connecting it. Otherwise it tells you the date your questions come back and links to the options: a pack of extra questions or a plan with no question limit. If your subscription is paused, it tells you how to resume.
Fixes you ask for in the chat#
On a paid plan or trial, your assistant can stage fixes, such as new titles for pages with few clicks. Staging runs nothing by itself. Each fix becomes a task on your AI Agents board. In Approval mode, nothing changes on your site until someone approves it, in the chat or on the board. In the other modes, a fix that can be undone may go live on its own like any other task, and it then appears in the daily email of changes with an Undo link. See approval modes. An approve link from your assistant works once and lasts 15 minutes.
Approved fixes use AI credits when they run, the same as fixes your agents find. See approve, dismiss or undo a task.
Disconnect an assistant or switch workspace#
- Open Settings > AI Agents and scroll to API Keys. You need to be an Admin or the Owner.
- Find the row named OAuth: followed by your assistant, for example OAuth: Claude.
- Click the trash icon on that row. The assistant is disconnected right away.
- To use another workspace, connect again and pick the other site in Workspace to connect.
Each person has one connection per assistant per workspace. Connecting again replaces your own earlier connection, never a teammate's.
- I clicked Claude in SEOmatic and nothing happened.
- That button copies the setup prompt; it does not install anything. Paste it into a new chat in your assistant. If your browser blocks copying, use the MCP setup guide instead.
- The page says "This connection request expired".
- Start the connection again from your assistant, or paste the setup prompt again.
- The Authorize page shows the wrong email or no workspace.
- Click Switch account on that page and sign in with the SEOmatic account that owns the site.
- Why does my assistant say it cannot change my site?
- Fixes need a live paid plan or trial. On the Free plan, or when billing is paused or failed, your assistant can read and answer only.
