Inside the SEO Audit Skill
The Short Answer
The SEOmatic SEO audit skill teaches an AI agent (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Gemini CLI and others) to run a full SEO audit of your own site through SEOmatic's MCP server. It compares the last 28 days of Search Console clicks with the period before, checks indexing on your top pages, crawls up to 30 pages for technical issues, reads your AI search visibility, and ends with a ranked fix list. The audit is free. On a paid plan the agent can stage each fix in your CMS, and nothing goes live until you click approve.
What You Get
A short verdict on the site's health, then a ranked list: quick wins first (titles that get seen but skipped, pages one push from page 1), then technical problems that block indexing, then bigger content work. Each item names the page, the number behind it and the specific change.

By default, nothing changes on your site until you approve it. A fix is staged as a proposal that says what will change and why. Approved fixes run within seconds, the page's previous state is stored, and any edit to an existing page can be rolled back. A rollback refuses to overwrite edits someone made since. Changes that could take a page out of Google, like a noindex, need an extra confirmation.

How is this different from an SEO audit tool?
Most audit tools crawl your site and list every warning. This skill starts from your own Search Console data, so it ranks problems by the clicks they cost you, and it leaves out warnings that do not matter for your site.
Does the audit cost anything?
No. Search Console reads, indexing checks, the 30-page technical crawl and your stored AI visibility results are free. Only live market data, such as keyword volumes, uses free questions or AI credits.
Is the SEO Audit skill free?
The skill is free and open source (MIT). Connecting is free with no card. Search Console reports, page checks and 30-page site audits are free, as often as you like. Live market data (keyword volumes, competitors, backlinks) uses free questions: 5 a month, plus a one-time 10 when you connect Search Console, and one question covers up to 5 lookups. Staging and publishing fixes is part of paid plans, which start with a 14-day trial.
