Use SEOmatic in Cue
Updated
Before you start
Access to Cue (it needs an invitation code), the Manus account you sign in to Cue with, and a free SEOmatic account with an API key from Settings, AI Agents, API Keys.
Connect Cue#
- Create an API key. Sign in to SEOmatic (a free account works), pick your site, then open Settings, AI Agents, API Keys and create a key. It starts with smk_live_.
- Add SEOmatic in Manus. In the Manus account you use for Cue, open Connectors, choose Create, then Add MCP by URL. If your account shows Settings, Integrations, Custom MCP Servers instead, choose Add Server there. Name it SEOmatic, enter https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp as the server URL and add the request header Authorization: Bearer followed by your key (on the older screen, the key is the Bearer token). Manus tests the connection and lists SEOmatic's tools.
- Pick one agent. Choose the agent that will look after your SEO and ask it to list its SEOmatic tools. If it has none, ask it in chat to connect https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp as a custom MCP connector. Cue has not documented per-agent connectors, so assume connections are shared across your agents and keep the SEO responsibility with one of them.
- Paste the responsibility. Paste the responsibility from this page as that agent's job, and add your domain.
- Ask your first question. Ask “How is my site doing on Google this week?” and check the answer gives exact dates and your real numbers.
Cue setup
# 1. Manus: Connectors > Create > Add MCP by URL
# (some accounts: Settings > Integrations > Custom MCP Servers > Add Server)
Name: SEOmatic
Server URL: https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp
Request header: Authorization: Bearer smk_live_...
(SEOmatic: Settings > AI Agents > API Keys;
on the older screen, the key is the Bearer token)
# Check in Cue: ask your agent "List your SEOmatic tools."
# None? Ask it: "Connect https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp as a custom MCP connector."
# 2. The SEO agent's responsibility
You look after the search traffic for my website, using SEOmatic.
- Use SEOmatic for every SEO question, and give the exact dates behind each number.
- Every Monday at 9am, run the SEOmatic weekly brief and send me only what changed.
- When a fix is worth making, explain it and stage it only after I say yes.
- Never approve a change yourself. Approving is my job.Note
No Search Console yet? The agent hands you a one-click link to connect it in SEOmatic. There is no Google Cloud project or service account to set up. If the agent answers SEO questions without naming SEOmatic, or lists only check_site and connect_seomatic, it is not signed in yet: check the Authorization header (or Bearer token) in the SEOmatic connector settings in Manus, then ask the agent again to list its SEOmatic tools.
Manus Settings, a Request in Chat, or Manus Itself?
| Route | Best for | How |
|---|---|---|
| Custom MCP server with an API key | Most people. This is the setup Manus documents | In your Manus account: Connectors, Create, Add MCP by URL (or Settings, Integrations, Custom MCP Servers, Add Server). Name SEOmatic, URL https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp, and the header Authorization: Bearer smk_live_... with a key from SEOmatic's Settings, AI Agents, API Keys. Manus tests the connection and lists SEOmatic's tools. |
| Ask the Cue agent in chat | If your Cue agent does not see the server you added in Manus | Ask your Cue agent to connect the MCP server https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp as a custom connector. If it offers a sign-in link, use it; if it asks for a key, give it through its connector form, never as a chat message. Then ask it to list its SEOmatic tools. |
| Manus instead | One-off SEO tasks, like an audit or a 90-day plan, rather than a standing job | Cue uses the same connector setup as Manus. See Manus SEO. |
Pick the custom MCP server with an API key, and paste the responsibility above into one agent. That agent becomes your SEO teammate. Cue has not documented per-agent connectors, so assume connections are shared across your agents: the responsibility, not the connector, is what keeps SEO with one of them.
Try Asking#
- “Every Monday, run my SEOmatic weekly brief and send me only what changed.”
- “When a Search Console email reaches your inbox, check the URLs it mentions and tell me if anything needs me.”
- “We just changed our redirects. Check index health every morning this week.”
- “How do ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Overviews describe my business?”
- “Pick three blog topics I can rank for and send them to the writing agent.”
- “What is waiting for my approval in SEOmatic?”
What It Costs#
Connecting is free. Reading your own data never uses credits: Search Console performance and insights, index status, rankings, site audits, AI citations, traffic and your tasks. Only live market lookups (keyword metrics, search results, backlinks), AI visibility scans and the fixes you approve use AI credits; every tool is labelled free or billed. On the Free plan, market lookups count against 5 free questions a month. The workspace Owner sees every credit spent, by feature, in Settings > Usage. Cue itself is billed by its maker, not by SEOmatic: nothing on our side counts tokens.
Nothing Changes on Your Site Without Your Approval#
A Cue agent can stage work in SEOmatic, never publish it on its own say-so. A staged change is a proposal: it says what will change and why, and in Approval mode nothing touches your site until you approve it. The assistant records your decision, and it is told never to approve anything on its own judgment. Approved fixes start within seconds, the page's previous state is stored, and any applied change can be rolled back. Changes that could take a page out of Google, like a noindex, need an extra explicit confirmation. Keep the SEO responsibility with one agent, and keep any API key in the connector's header, never in a chat message.
- Cue says SEOmatic is connected but answers without my data.
- Start a new chat and check that SEOmatic is enabled for that conversation in the tools menu. This is the step most people miss.
- The SEOmatic page says "This connection request expired".
- Start the connection again from Cue, or paste the setup prompt again.
- The Authorize page shows the wrong email or no workspace.
- Click Switch account on that page and sign in with the SEOmatic account that owns the site.
- Why does Cue say it cannot change my site?
- Fixes need a live paid plan or trial. On the Free plan, or when billing is paused or failed, your assistant can read and answer only.
- How do I disconnect?
- Open Settings > AI Agents, scroll to API Keys and delete the row named OAuth: Cue. See disconnect an assistant.
