Use SEOmatic in Google Antigravity
Updated
Before you start
Google Antigravity (IDE or desktop app) or the agy CLI, signed in with your Google account, and a free SEOmatic account. Create an API key in Settings, AI Agents, API Keys.
Connect Google Antigravity#
- Create an API key. In SEOmatic, open Settings, AI Agents and create an API key. Copy it; it starts with smk_live_.
- Open the MCP config. In the Antigravity IDE, click the … menu at the top of the agent panel, choose MCP Servers, then Manage MCP Servers, then View raw config. This opens ~/.gemini/config/mcp_config.json. In the desktop app, open that file in any editor; its Settings, Customizations, Installed MCP Servers screen lists servers but does not edit custom ones.
- Paste the SEOmatic block. Add the seomatic entry under mcpServers with serverUrl https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp and your key in the Authorization header. Keep any servers already there, and save.
- Or use agy. In a terminal, run agy mcp add --header "Authorization: Bearer smk_live_..." seomatic https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp instead of editing the file, then agy mcp list to see it enabled. Inside agy, /mcp shows server status and reloads the config.
- Allow the tools. Antigravity runs MCP tools in Ask mode by default, so it asks before each SEOmatic call. To stop the prompts, add mcp(seomatic/*) to your allowed permissions.
- Ask about your site. Ask: “How did my site do on Google over the last 28 days?” The answer should name the date range and your real numbers.
Google Antigravity setup
// ~/.gemini/config/mcp_config.json
// (or .agents/mcp_config.json for one workspace)
{
"mcpServers": {
"seomatic": {
"serverUrl": "https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp",
"headers": {
"Authorization": "Bearer smk_live_..."
}
}
}
}
// or, from a terminal:
agy mcp add --header "Authorization: Bearer smk_live_..." \
seomatic https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp
agy mcp listNote
Use serverUrl, not url or httpUrl: Antigravity does not load remote servers written with the older keys. If the tools do not appear, reopen Manage MCP Servers (IDE), Installed MCP Servers (desktop app) or /mcp (agy) and check that seomatic is listed without an error. New MCP tools run in Ask mode until you allow them with mcp(seomatic/*). Keep the key out of shared repos: use the global file, not .agents/mcp_config.json, unless the repo is private to you.
Config File, Agy Command or Skills?
| Route | Best for | How |
|---|---|---|
| Config file with an API key | Most people: one block covers the IDE, the desktop app and agy | Paste the config above into ~/.gemini/config/mcp_config.json (the IDE opens it with View raw config; the desktop app has no editor, so open the file yourself). The key must be serverUrl. |
| agy mcp add | Terminal users who would rather run one command | agy mcp add --header "Authorization: Bearer smk_live_..." seomatic https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp, then agy mcp list to check it shows as enabled. |
| Skills only | Running SEO checks through the SEOmatic CLI | npx skills add Minh42/seomatic-mcp -a antigravity (or -a antigravity-cli), with SEOMATIC_API_KEY set. |
Pick the config file with an API key. Antigravity's OAuth sign-in for remote MCP servers has an open upstream bug, and the key avoids it completely. One block in one file gives every Antigravity surface the same SEOmatic tools.
Try Asking#
- “Plan this sprint's SEO work: which three pages should we fix first?”
- “List the pages Google has not indexed and find the cause in this repo.”
- “Which pages rank on page two? Give each one its own agent and a fix.”
- “Audit the site before I deploy and fix anything that would hurt rankings.”
- “My organic clicks fell this month. Which pages lost them, and did a recent commit cause it?”
- “Which questions do AI assistants answer without citing us?”
What It Costs#
Connecting is free. Reading your own data never uses credits: Search Console performance and insights, index status, rankings, site audits, AI citations, traffic and your tasks. Only live market lookups (keyword metrics, search results, backlinks), AI visibility scans and the fixes you approve use AI credits; every tool is labelled free or billed. On the Free plan, market lookups count against 5 free questions a month. The workspace Owner sees every credit spent, by feature, in Settings > Usage. Google Antigravity itself is billed by its maker, not by SEOmatic: nothing on our side counts tokens.
Nothing Changes on Your Site Without Your Approval#
Antigravity can work in your repo and in SEOmatic, and both keep you in charge. In your repo, agents edit files and you review the diffs before anything ships. In your CMS, an agent can only stage a fix in SEOmatic. The API key you give Antigravity can be deleted in SEOmatic at any time. A staged change is a proposal: it says what will change and why, and nothing touches your site until you approve it. The assistant records your decision, and it is told never to approve anything on its own judgment. Approved fixes start within seconds, the page's previous state is stored, and any applied change can be rolled back. Changes that could take a page out of Google, like a noindex, need an extra explicit confirmation.
- Google Antigravity says SEOmatic is connected but answers without my data.
- Start a new chat and check that SEOmatic is enabled for that conversation in the tools menu. This is the step most people miss.
- The SEOmatic page says "This connection request expired".
- Start the connection again from Google Antigravity, or paste the setup prompt again.
- The Authorize page shows the wrong email or no workspace.
- Click Switch account on that page and sign in with the SEOmatic account that owns the site.
- Why does Google Antigravity say it cannot change my site?
- Fixes need a live paid plan or trial. On the Free plan, or when billing is paused or failed, your assistant can read and answer only.
- How do I disconnect?
- Open Settings > AI Agents, scroll to API Keys and delete the row named OAuth: Google Antigravity. See disconnect an assistant.
