Use SEOmatic in Meta Muse
Updated
Before you start
Muse, available in the US and Canada to people 18 and over, and a free SEOmatic account, which you can create during the sign-in.
Connect Meta Muse#
- Copy the setup message. Copy the setup message from this page. It names the SEOmatic server, https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp, asks for OAuth first and tells Muse how to take a key if it needs one.
- Send it to Muse. Paste it into a new message to Muse in the app or at muse.ai. If Muse asks, confirm it is a remote MCP server over streamable HTTP.
- Approve the sign-in, or hand over a key. Open the link Muse sends back, sign in or create a free SEOmatic account, approve access and pick your site. If Muse asks for a credential instead, create a key in SEOmatic under Settings, AI Agents, API Keys and paste it into Muse's credential prompt, never into the chat.
- Let Muse save the skill. Muse saves the connector and a skill, then lists your SEOmatic workspaces to show the connection works.
- Ask your first question. Try “What are my three quickest SEO wins right now?” and check the answer cites your real Search Console numbers.
Meta Muse setup
Build a custom connector to SEOmatic. Its MCP server is https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp, a public HTTPS endpoint that speaks streamable HTTP. - Prefer OAuth: send me the sign-in link and I will approve it. If you need a key instead, ask me through your secure credential prompt, never in chat, and send it as Authorization: Bearer <key>. - Save a skill so every question about SEO, Google rankings or Search Console uses SEOmatic first. Once connected, list my SEOmatic workspaces.
Note
Muse connects from Meta's cloud, so the server has to be public HTTPS, which SEOmatic is. If the OAuth link stalls, give Muse an API key instead: create one in SEOmatic under Settings, AI Agents, API Keys, and paste it into Muse's credential prompt so it lands in the secure credentials store as a Bearer token. Never send a key as a chat message. You can revoke a key any time on the same settings page. Meta does not review custom connectors, so Muse will ask you to confirm.
Setup Message with OAuth, an API Key or Connector Settings?
| Route | Best for | How |
|---|---|---|
| Setup message (OAuth) | The first thing to try. Works from the app and muse.ai | Paste the setup message above into Muse, open the sign-in link it sends, approve access. |
| Setup message (API key) | The quickest path when Muse asks for a key, or if the sign-in link stalls | Create a key in Settings, AI Agents, API Keys. When the connector's Connect prompt asks for a credential, paste the key there: Muse keeps it in its secure credentials store and sends it as a Bearer token. Never send the key as a chat message. |
| Connector settings | Only if your Muse shows the option | Meta's help page documents custom connectors through chat. If your Settings, Connectors page offers an add-custom option, the same URL https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp works there. |
Use the setup message. It asks for OAuth first, so no secret has to pass through the chat, falls back to a key kept in Muse's secure credentials store, and asks Muse to save a skill so SEO questions go to SEOmatic without reminders.
Try Asking#
- “Give me a short summary of how my site did on Google this week.”
- “What are my three quickest SEO wins right now?”
- “Audit example.com/blog/my-new-post before I share it.”
- “Which local searches bring people to my site, and where do I rank?”
- “Is my brand showing up in ChatGPT and Google AI answers?”
- “Stage a fix for the page that lost the most clicks this month.”
What It Costs#
Connecting is free. Reading your own data never uses credits: Search Console performance and insights, index status, rankings, site audits, AI citations, traffic and your tasks. Only live market lookups (keyword metrics, search results, backlinks), AI visibility scans and the fixes you approve use AI credits; every tool is labelled free or billed. On the Free plan, market lookups count against 5 free questions a month. The workspace Owner sees every credit spent, by feature, in Settings > Usage. Meta Muse itself is billed by its maker, not by SEOmatic: nothing on our side counts tokens.
Nothing Changes on Your Site Without Your Approval#
With Muse you get two checks, not one: Muse asks you before anything that changes or spends, and SEOmatic holds every change until you approve it. A staged change is a proposal: it says what will change and why, and nothing touches your site until you approve it. The assistant records your decision, and it is told never to approve anything on its own judgment. Approved fixes start within seconds, the page's previous state is stored, and any applied change can be rolled back. Changes that could take a page out of Google, like a noindex, need an extra explicit confirmation.
- Meta Muse says SEOmatic is connected but answers without my data.
- Start a new chat and check that SEOmatic is enabled for that conversation in the tools menu. This is the step most people miss.
- The SEOmatic page says "This connection request expired".
- Start the connection again from Meta Muse, or paste the setup prompt again.
- The Authorize page shows the wrong email or no workspace.
- Click Switch account on that page and sign in with the SEOmatic account that owns the site.
- Why does Meta Muse say it cannot change my site?
- Fixes need a live paid plan or trial. On the Free plan, or when billing is paused or failed, your assistant can read and answer only.
- How do I disconnect?
- Open Settings > AI Agents, scroll to API Keys and delete the row named OAuth: Meta Muse. See disconnect an assistant.
