Use SEOmatic in Claude Cowork
Updated
Before you start
A paid Claude plan (Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise where an admin turns Cowork on). Cowork runs in the Claude desktop app, on claude.ai and in the mobile app. Plus a free SEOmatic account, which you can create during the connect step. No terminal, no API key.
Connect Claude Cowork#
- Open Cowork's connectors. In the Claude desktop app or on claude.ai, open Customize, then Connectors. On older Team or Enterprise builds that still separate Cowork from chat, pick Cowork from the message-box dropdown first.
- Add a custom connector. Click + Add, choose Add custom connector, name it SEOmatic and paste https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp.
- Sign in to SEOmatic. Sign in or create a free SEOmatic account, approve access on the SEOmatic consent screen and pick your site.
- Connect Search Console. If your workspace has no Search Console yet, Cowork hands you a one-click link the first time it needs your data.
- Give Cowork its first task. Try “Write my weekly SEO brief for the last 7 days into a doc in my SEO folder.”

Note
Already use SEOmatic in Claude on the web? The same connection works in Cowork, so you can skip straight to your first task.
Custom Connector, Directory Connector or Plugin?
| Route | Best for | How |
|---|---|---|
| Custom connector | Most Cowork users who have not connected SEOmatic yet | Customize, Connectors, + Add, Add custom connector. URL https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp, then sign in. |
| Directory connector | People who already connected SEOmatic in Claude on the web | Nothing to do: connectors you add in Claude also show up in Cowork. See Claude SEO. |
| Plugin | Weekly SEO work: the connector plus 20 SEO skills, including the weekly brief | Customize, Plugins, Add marketplace Minh42/seomatic-mcp, then install seomatic. |
Pick the custom connector, unless SEOmatic is already connected in your Claude account, in which case it is already there. Add the plugin later if you want Cowork to follow SEOmatic's own playbooks for audits and weekly briefs.
Try Asking#
- “Write my weekly SEO brief for the last 7 days into a doc in my SEO folder. Only tell me what changed.”
- “Audit my site and save the issues as a spreadsheet, one row per page, sorted by impact.”
- “Find the pages that lost the most clicks over the last 90 days and write a refresh plan for the top five.”
- “Check every URL in redirects.csv against Google's index and list the ones that are not indexed.”
- “Make a one-page monthly report for my client, with the date range on every number.”
- “Find pages created in the last month that have no meta description, and stage descriptions for them.”
What It Costs#
Connecting is free. Reading your own data never uses credits: Search Console performance and insights, index status, rankings, site audits, AI citations, traffic and your tasks. Only live market lookups (keyword metrics, search results, backlinks), AI visibility scans and the fixes you approve use AI credits; every tool is labelled free or billed. On the Free plan, market lookups count against 5 free questions a month. The workspace Owner sees every credit spent, by feature, in Settings > Usage. Claude Cowork itself is billed by its maker, not by SEOmatic: nothing on our side counts tokens.
Nothing Changes on Your Site Without Your Approval#
Cowork can write files on your computer, but it cannot publish to your site on its own. A staged change is a proposal: it says what will change and why, and nothing touches your site until you approve it. The assistant records your decision, and it is told never to approve anything on its own judgment. Approved fixes start within seconds, the page's previous state is stored, and any applied change can be rolled back. Changes that could take a page out of Google, like a noindex, need an extra explicit confirmation. What Cowork writes into your folders is a draft for you; what reaches your site is only what you approve in SEOmatic.
- Claude Cowork says SEOmatic is connected but answers without my data.
- Start a new chat and check that SEOmatic is enabled for that conversation in the tools menu. This is the step most people miss.
- The SEOmatic page says "This connection request expired".
- Start the connection again from Claude Cowork, or paste the setup prompt again.
- The Authorize page shows the wrong email or no workspace.
- Click Switch account on that page and sign in with the SEOmatic account that owns the site.
- Why does Claude Cowork say it cannot change my site?
- Fixes need a live paid plan or trial. On the Free plan, or when billing is paused or failed, your assistant can read and answer only.
- How do I disconnect?
- Open Settings > AI Agents, scroll to API Keys and delete the row named OAuth: Claude Cowork. See disconnect an assistant.
