Use SEOmatic in Perplexity Computer
Updated
Before you start
A Perplexity Pro or Max plan, which includes Computer, and a free SEOmatic account. On an organization plan, an admin must turn on Allow members to add custom connectors first; it is off by default.
Connect Perplexity Computer#
- Open Plugins. In Perplexity, open Plugins in the sidebar (on the older UI, Customize, then Connectors), choose Add custom, then Add MCP connector, and pick Remote.
- Add SEOmatic. Name it SEOmatic and set the MCP server URL to https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp. Under Advanced, set Authentication to OAuth and Transport to Streamable HTTP. Tick the acknowledgement and select Add.
- Sign in. Select the SEOmatic card to start the sign-in. Sign in or create a free SEOmatic account, approve access on the SEOmatic screen and pick your site. The card then shows as connected.
- Start a Computer task. Open Computer and give it an SEO goal that names SEOmatic. If it does not pick SEOmatic up, type / in the message box and select SEOmatic.
- Check the numbers. Try “How did my site do on Google in the last 28 days?” and check the answer cites your real Search Console numbers and dates.
Perplexity Computer setup
# Perplexity -> Plugins (sidebar) -> Add custom -> Add MCP connector -> Remote
# (older UI: Customize -> Connectors)
Name: SEOmatic
MCP server URL: https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp
# Advanced:
Authentication: OAuth
Transport: Streamable HTTP
# Tick the acknowledgement, select Add, then select the SEOmatic card
# to sign in to SEOmatic and enable it.
# Fallback: Authentication = API Key, with an SEOmatic key (smk_live_...)
# Weekly brief: ask Computer "every Monday at 9am ..." and confirm;
# it shows on the Automations dashboard (perplexity.ai/computer/automations)Note
If the OAuth sign-in is blocked for your account, use the same steps with Authentication set to API Key and a key from SEOmatic's Settings, AI Agents, API Keys. Do not paste the key into a chat or task.
Custom Connector, API Key or a Scheduled Task?
| Route | Best for | How |
|---|---|---|
| Custom connector (OAuth) | Most people. Works in every Computer task and in Perplexity chats | Plugins, Add custom, Add MCP connector, Remote. URL https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp; under Advanced, OAuth and Streamable HTTP. Select Add, then the SEOmatic card to sign in. |
| Custom connector (API key) | When the OAuth sign-in is blocked for your account | Same steps, with Authentication under Advanced set to API Key and a key from Settings, AI Agents, API Keys. |
| Scheduled Task | A weekly SEO brief without asking | After connecting, open Computer and ask: “Every Monday at 9am, run my SEOmatic weekly brief and tell me only what changed.” Confirm the schedule; it shows on the Automations dashboard. |
Pick the OAuth connector. You sign in once, nothing secret is pasted anywhere, and every Computer task can use SEOmatic. Add a Scheduled Task on top when you want the brief to come to you.
Try Asking#
- “Build me a 30-day SEO plan from my Search Console data and write it up as a doc.”
- “Why did my organic traffic fall last month? Find the pages and queries behind it.”
- “Compare my site with these two competitors and list realistic keyword gaps.”
- “Run a full technical audit of my site and rank the fixes by impact.”
- “Which questions do AI engines answer without citing my site, and who do they cite?”
- “Every Monday at 9, send me my SEOmatic weekly brief with only what changed.”
What It Costs#
Connecting is free. Reading your own data never uses credits: Search Console performance and insights, index status, rankings, site audits, AI citations, traffic and your tasks. Only live market lookups (keyword metrics, search results, backlinks), AI visibility scans and the fixes you approve use AI credits; every tool is labelled free or billed. On the Free plan, market lookups count against 5 free questions a month. The workspace Owner sees every credit spent, by feature, in Settings > Usage. Perplexity Computer itself is billed by its maker, not by SEOmatic: nothing on our side counts tokens.
Nothing Changes on Your Site Without Your Approval#
Perplexity Computer can stage work in SEOmatic, never publish it on its own. A staged change is a proposal: it says what will change and why, and in Approval mode nothing touches your site until you approve it. The assistant records your decision, and it is told never to approve anything on its own judgment. Approved fixes start within seconds, the page's previous state is stored, and any applied change can be rolled back. Changes that could take a page out of Google, like a noindex, need an extra explicit confirmation. A Scheduled Task can report and stage, but approving always stays with you.
- Perplexity Computer says SEOmatic is connected but answers without my data.
- Start a new chat and check that SEOmatic is enabled for that conversation in the tools menu. This is the step most people miss.
- The SEOmatic page says "This connection request expired".
- Start the connection again from Perplexity Computer, or paste the setup prompt again.
- The Authorize page shows the wrong email or no workspace.
- Click Switch account on that page and sign in with the SEOmatic account that owns the site.
- Why does Perplexity Computer say it cannot change my site?
- Fixes need a live paid plan or trial. On the Free plan, or when billing is paused or failed, your assistant can read and answer only.
- How do I disconnect?
- Open Settings > AI Agents, scroll to API Keys and delete the row named OAuth: Perplexity Computer. See disconnect an assistant.
