Gemini knows a lot about SEO and nothing about your site. Add SEOmatic and Gemini answers from your own Google Search Console data, audits your pages and checks your AI visibility. Use it as a custom app at gemini.google.com, or in Gemini CLI on a Workspace account or with a Gemini API key, where it can also fix the cause in your code.

SEOmatic is a hosted MCP server. The Gemini web app adds it as a custom app, and Gemini CLI adds it as an extension or an MCP server. Both sign in with OAuth; Gemini CLI can also use a workspace API key on machines without a browser.
October 2026
Gemini web app: a personal Google account, age 18 or over, in the US, in English, with Keep Activity on. Gemini CLI: a Google Workspace account or a Gemini API key. Google retired Gemini CLI for personal (free, Pro and Ultra) accounts on June 18, 2026; those accounts use Antigravity. Plus a free SEOmatic account.
Free to connect, with 5 questions a month from your own data (plus 10 once you connect Search Console). Paid plans add agents that stage fixes for your approval. See pricing.
Endpoint, auth, every tool and what it costs: SEOmatic MCP server docs.
Clicks, impressions, CTR and position for the last 28 days against the 28 before, with the pages and queries that moved most.
Queries where you rank on page 2 or low on page 1, sorted by the clicks you could gain.
Inspect up to 50 URLs in one call and list the ones Google left out, with the reason for each.
From Gemini CLI, audit key pages after a release for noindex leaks, canonical mistakes and broken internal links.
Where your brand appears in AI answers from your latest scans, including Google AI Overviews, and who is named instead.
On paid plans, Gemini stages new titles and descriptions for pages people see but skip. You approve each one.
Gemini is where many site owners already ask Google-shaped questions. With SEOmatic connected, the answers come from your Search Console instead of general advice, and in Gemini CLI the fix can land in your code in the same session.
An example on the Acme Plumbing demo site. You ask Gemini:
“Compare my Google clicks this month with last month and tell me what changed.”
Gemini calls SEOmatic:
gsc_performance: Sep 12 to Oct 9 (28 days) vs Aug 15 to Sep 11 (28 days)gsc_insights: pages and queries that moved mostGemini answers:
Clicks are up 6% (4,210 vs 3,972) for Sep 12 to Oct 9 (28 days) against the 28 days before. Two pages explain most of it:
/emergency-plumber is flat. Want me to stage a new title for /drain-cleaning-cost? Nothing changes until you approve.
Also try:
Gemini on its own writes good SEO advice, but it cannot open your Search Console. With SEOmatic connected, a simple routine works in both the app and the CLI:
Gemini CLI is the better pick when SEO problems start in code. Ask it to audit your live site with SEOmatic, then point it at the templates that cause each issue: a missing title tag in a layout, a canonical that points at staging, a robots rule that blocks a folder.
It also runs without a person at the keyboard. With a SEOmatic API key in the Bearer header, gemini -p can run a check after each deploy, over SSH or in CI, and print what changed.
Gemini CLI needs a Workspace account or a Gemini API key. On a personal Google account, Antigravity does the same job.
Paste any of these into the Gemini app (type @ and pick SEOmatic first) or a Gemini CLI session:
Gemini reaches SEOmatic's tools through the connector, which is an MCP server. The ones you will use most:
Each tool says whether it is free or uses AI credits before Gemini calls it, and key tools show interactive cards in the chat: connect buttons, scan progress and approval buttons. The full list, with every parameter, is in the SEO MCP server reference.
Pick the route for where you use Gemini. Both take about a minute, and neither needs a Google Cloud project for Search Console.
# Gemini web app (gemini.google.com, US personal accounts):
Settings -> Connected Apps -> Custom apps -> Add a custom app
URL: https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp
Next -> sign in to SEOmatic and pick your site
# Gemini CLI (Workspace accounts or a Gemini API key), in your shell:
gemini extensions install https://github.com/Minh42/seomatic-mcp
# start gemini and ask a question; sign in when the browser opens
# (or run /mcp auth seomatic inside gemini)
# Gemini CLI, server only, no extension:
gemini mcp add --transport http seomatic https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp
# over SSH or in a container, add a key instead of the browser flow:
# --header "Authorization: Bearer smk_live_..."
# Personal Google account and want a coding agent? Use Antigravity:
# seomatic.ai/ai-assistants/antigravityOver SSH or in a container, the browser sign-in cannot complete. Create a key in SEOmatic under Settings, AI Agents, API Keys and add the server with gemini mcp add and the Bearer header instead. On a personal Google account, Gemini CLI is no longer available: use Antigravity for a coding agent.
| Route | Best for | How |
|---|---|---|
| Gemini web app | Chat at gemini.google.com and in the Gemini mobile app. Personal accounts in the US, 18 and over | Settings, Connected Apps, Custom apps, Add a custom app, URL https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp, Next, sign in. |
| Gemini CLI extension | Workspace accounts and Gemini API key users in a terminal. Adds the SEOmatic skills with the server | gemini extensions install https://github.com/Minh42/seomatic-mcp in your shell, then start gemini and sign in. |
| gemini mcp add | A bare server connection in Gemini CLI, or servers and containers with an API key | gemini mcp add --transport http seomatic https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp, plus --header "Authorization: Bearer smk_live_..." where there is no browser. |
| Antigravity | Personal Google accounts that want a coding agent: Google retired Gemini CLI for them on June 18, 2026 | See Antigravity SEO. |
Chatting at gemini.google.com? Use the custom app, and type @ to pick SEOmatic in a chat. In Gemini CLI on a Workspace account or with an API key? Pick the extension. It registers the same SEOmatic server and adds the SEO skills, so Gemini CLI knows the audit and striking-distance workflows. On a personal account and want a coding agent? Use Antigravity.
Gemini reads Google Search Console through SEOmatic, and the fixes you approve go live in your CMS. Pick your platform for the exact steps:
This page covers the two Gemini products you can connect SEOmatic to.
The app and the CLI reach the same SEOmatic workspace, so your free questions and approvals carry across.
Connecting is free, and so is the SEOmatic account behind it: no card. A free account answers 5 questions a month from your own data, plus 10 bonus questions once you connect Google Search Console. Each tool call counts as one question, so a big request can use a few.
Free covers the diagnosis: Search Console reports and insights, site audits of up to 30 pages, live page analysis, and your AI visibility results. Live market data, like keyword volumes, backlink profiles and competitor domains, is part of paid plans, with one free keyword preview per workspace.
Paid plans remove the question limit and add the treatment: agents stage fixes on your site (titles, descriptions, content updates, technical fixes, internal links) and run campaigns and fresh AI visibility scans. Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial. See pricing.
Gemini itself is billed by Google: Gemini CLI runs on a Workspace plan or a Gemini API key. A key from a free SEOmatic workspace covers every read and analysis tool, which is all most post-deploy checks need.
Gemini can read and analyze freely. Any change to a live page is staged in SEOmatic, never pushed by Gemini. A staged change is a proposal: it says what will change and why, and nothing touches your site until you approve it. The assistant records your decision, and it is told never to approve anything on its own judgment. Approved fixes start within seconds, the page's previous state is stored, and any applied change can be rolled back. Changes that could take a page out of Google, like a noindex, need an extra explicit confirmation. Code changes Gemini CLI proposes in your repo follow your own review: nothing is committed unless you accept it.
Prefer another assistant? See Claude SEO and ChatGPT SEO. Other terminal agents: Claude Code and Grok Build. Explore page indexing, XML sitemaps, the Google Search Console integration and the REST API. All assistants: AI assistants. Full reference: MCP docs.

How do I connect SEOmatic to Gemini?
In the Gemini web app, open Settings, then Connected Apps, choose Add a custom app, enter https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp, click Next and sign in. In Gemini CLI, on a Workspace account or with a Gemini API key, run gemini extensions install https://github.com/Minh42/seomatic-mcp in your shell, start gemini and sign in to SEOmatic when the browser opens.
Can Gemini do SEO?
Gemini can explain SEO, but it cannot see your rankings or clicks on its own. With SEOmatic connected, it reads your real Google Search Console data, audits your pages, checks index status and your AI visibility, and on paid plans stages fixes for you to approve.
Does SEOmatic work in the Gemini app, not just Gemini CLI?
Yes, as a custom app at gemini.google.com. Google allows custom apps for personal Google accounts, age 18 or over, in the US, in English, with Keep Activity on. Once added on the web, it also works in the Gemini mobile app. Type @ and pick SEOmatic in a chat so Gemini uses it.
What is the difference between the extension and gemini mcp add?
Both connect the same SEOmatic server. The extension also installs SEOmatic's SEO skills and a context file, so Gemini CLI knows workflows like the audit and the striking-distance check. Use gemini mcp add when you only want the server, or when you need an API key header on a server.
Is it free?
Yes to start. The SEOmatic account is free with no card and answers 5 questions a month from your own data, plus 10 bonus questions once you connect Search Console. Paid plans remove the limit and add agents that stage fixes. Gemini itself is billed by Google.
Can I still use Gemini CLI on a personal Google account?
No. Google retired Gemini CLI for personal Google accounts (free, Pro and Ultra) on June 18, 2026. Workspace accounts and Gemini API key users keep it. On a personal account, add SEOmatic as a custom app in the Gemini web app, or use Antigravity, the Google coding agent that replaced Gemini CLI, which also connects to SEOmatic.
Do I need a Google Cloud project or a service account?
No. You connect Search Console to SEOmatic with a normal Google sign-in, and Gemini reaches it through SEOmatic. There are no API credentials to create in Google Cloud.
Are the numbers Gemini shows real?
Yes. They come from your own Google Search Console through SEOmatic, and each answer names the exact date range and number of days it used, so you can check them against Search Console yourself.
Gemini CLI does not show the SEOmatic tools. What should I check?
Run /extensions list to confirm the extension installed, then /mcp list to see if the seomatic server connected. If it shows an auth error, run /mcp auth seomatic and finish the sign-in. Gemini CLI loads extensions at startup, so restart gemini after installing, and run the install command in your shell, not inside gemini.
Why does the sign-in fail over SSH?
The browser sign-in needs a local browser and a localhost redirect, which a remote shell or container does not have. Create a SEOmatic API key under Settings, AI Agents, API Keys and add the server with gemini mcp add and the header Authorization: Bearer followed by your key.
Can it change my site without asking?
No. By default every change SEOmatic proposes waits for your approval before it touches your site, and your assistant is told never to approve on its own. Approved changes are stored with the page's previous state, so any edit to an existing page can be rolled back. If you later want low-risk fixes to go ahead on their own, you can turn that on in your autonomy settings; changes to your URLs or indexing, and new content, still wait for you.
Is this the same as Gemini in Google Search?
No. The AI answers in Google Search are a place your site can appear, not something you connect. SEOmatic tracks them: Google AI Overviews is one of the AI engines it checks by default, so you can see which questions mention your brand and which name a competitor.
