Inside SEOmatic's Google Analytics MCP
The Short Answer
SEOmatic is a hosted MCP server that reads Google Analytics 4 (sessions, users, sources, landing pages, top pages) alongside Google Search Console, at https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp. Google's official Google Analytics MCP server is open source and runs locally with Application Default Credentials; it is the better pick for arbitrary GA4 reports. SEOmatic covers the SEO questions: it joins GA4 with Search Console, adds, on WordPress sites running the SEOmatic plugin, first-party AI traffic that GA4 files as Direct, and can stage fixes in your CMS for your approval. Reading GA4 through SEOmatic is free.
Connect
Add https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp as a remote MCP server (Streamable HTTP) in your agent, then sign in to SEOmatic in the browser. Sign-in is OAuth 2.1 with PKCE and dynamic client registration, so there is no key to paste. Scripts and headless agents can send a workspace API key as a Bearer token instead.
Connect Google Analytics once in SEOmatic, with a Google sign-in. Setup guides per agent: Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Gemini and 24 more.
https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcpWhat It Reads
- Overview: sessions, users, pageviews and bounce rate for a window you choose.
- Sources: sessions by channel, so organic search sits next to paid, social and direct.
- Landing pages and top pages: where visits start and which pages get seen most.
- AI pages (WordPress with the SEOmatic plugin): first-party AI activity per page, meaning answer-engine crawler fetches and visits referred by AI assistants. GA4 files most of that traffic as Direct, so it is invisible there.
Ask "Which landing pages lost organic sessions this month, and what did Search Console clicks do on the same pages?" and the agent answers from both sources, with the date range named.
SEOmatic vs Google's Official Google Analytics MCP
| SEOmatic | Google Analytics MCP (official) | |
|---|---|---|
| Runs where | Hosted | Your machine (Python) |
| Setup | One Google sign-in | Application Default Credentials with the Analytics read-only scope |
| GA4 reports | Overview, sources, landing pages, top pages | Any report: run_report with your own dimensions and metrics, plus realtime |
| Search Console in the same answers | Yes | No |
| AI-referred traffic GA4 misses | Yes, on WordPress with the SEOmatic plugin | No |
| Changes your site | Yes, staged for your approval | No |
| Price | Free to read | Free, open source |
Use Google's server when you need custom GA4 reports, any dimension, any metric. Use SEOmatic when the question is about search: which pages lost traffic, why, and what to change.
From Answer to Fix
By default, nothing changes on your site until you approve it. A fix is staged as a proposal that says what will change and why. Approved fixes run within seconds, the page's previous state is stored, and any edit to an existing page can be rolled back. A rollback refuses to overwrite edits someone made since. Changes that could take a page out of Google, like a noindex, need an extra confirmation.
Every shipped change is measured against its own baseline and the site's trend: after 14 days for a title, 28 for a content refresh, 42 for striking-distance and cannibalization work, 90 for a new page. It is marked verified only when the gain over the site's own trend is statistically clear and worth at least 5 more clicks; otherwise it is ineffective, or regressed when it falls more than 15%. Low-risk changes that lose traffic roll back on their own.
What Is Free
Connecting is free with no card. Search Console reports, page checks and 30-page site audits are free, as often as you like. Live market data (keyword volumes, competitors, backlinks) uses free questions: 5 a month, plus a one-time 10 when you connect Search Console, and one question covers up to 5 lookups. Staging and publishing fixes is part of paid plans, which start with a 14-day trial.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there an official Google Analytics MCP server?
Yes. Google publishes an open-source Google Analytics MCP server that runs locally and reads GA4 with your Application Default Credentials. SEOmatic is a hosted alternative that reads GA4 next to Search Console.
Does it work with GA4?
Yes. SEOmatic reads Google Analytics 4 properties: sessions, users, pageviews, channels, landing pages and top pages.
Can it run any GA4 report?
No. SEOmatic covers the reports SEO questions need. For arbitrary dimensions and metrics, Google's own Analytics MCP server is the better tool, and both can be connected to the same agent.
Is it free?
Yes. Reading Google Analytics through SEOmatic is free on every plan, including the free plan.
