How It Works, Step by Step
- You ask Claude a question about your site in plain language.
- Claude picks the SEOmatic tools it needs, for example Search Console performance and CTR outliers, and calls them on your connected workspace.
- SEOmatic returns your real data plus its own analysis, such as brand vs non-brand split or cannibalization, and Claude turns it into an answer.
- When the answer finds a fixable problem, Claude names the fix and offers to stage it. On a paid plan, saying yes stages it as a proposal in SEOmatic.
- You review the staged change and approve it in the chat. It goes live on your site through your connected CMS, and it can be rolled back.
SEOmatic's agents also keep working after the chat ends: on paid plans, diagnosis, planning and visibility scans run on schedule, so the next conversation starts from fresh findings.
How to Connect SEOmatic to Claude
SEOmatic is in Claude's connectors directory, so there is no API key to copy. Setup takes about a minute.
- Open Connectors. In Claude on the web or the desktop app, open Settings, then Connectors.
- Add SEOmatic. Pick SEOmatic from the connectors directory, or choose Add custom connector, name it SEOmatic and use the URL https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp.
- Sign in and approve. Click Connect, sign in or create a free SEOmatic account, approve access on the SEOmatic consent screen and pick your site.
- Switch it on in a new chat. Start a new chat, open the tools menu in the message box and make sure SEOmatic is enabled for that conversation. This is the step people miss.
- Ask your first question. Try “How is my site doing on Google this month?” and check the answer cites your real Search Console numbers.

Nothing Changes on Your Site Without Your Approval
Claude can stage work in SEOmatic, never publish it on its own say-so. A staged change is a proposal: it says what will change and why, and nothing touches your site until you approve it. The assistant records your decision, and it is told never to approve anything on its own judgment. Approved fixes start within seconds, the page's previous state is stored, and any applied change can be rolled back. Changes that could take a page out of Google, like a noindex, need an extra explicit confirmation. The first full rewrite of a page, and any page you mark as protected, only releases after you have seen the staged content itself.

How do I connect SEOmatic to Claude?
Open Settings, then Connectors in Claude, pick SEOmatic from the directory (or add a custom connector with the URL https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp), click Connect and approve on the SEOmatic screen. Then, in a new chat, make sure SEOmatic is switched on in the tools menu.

Can it change my site without asking?
No. By default every change SEOmatic proposes waits for your approval before it touches your site, and your assistant is told never to approve on its own. Approved changes are stored with the page's previous state, so any of them can be rolled back. If you later want low-risk fixes to go ahead on their own, you can turn that on in your autonomy settings; changes to your URLs still wait for you.
I connected SEOmatic but Claude does not use it. Why?
The connector has to be switched on for each conversation. Start a new chat, open the tools menu in the message box, and turn SEOmatic on. Then ask a question about your own site.
Does it work in Claude Desktop?
Yes. The setup is the same in the Claude desktop app and on the web: Settings, then Connectors.
