Inside the Keyword Research Skill
The Short Answer
The SEOmatic keyword research skill teaches an AI agent to research keywords starting from evidence: the searches your business says bring customers, and the queries your site already earns impressions for in Google Search Console. It expands them with real volume, difficulty, CPC, intent and Google Trends direction, checks the search results before committing, groups keywords by intent, and maps each group to an existing or new page. SEOmatic can stage the resulting work, and nothing goes live until you click approve.
What You Get
A table of keyword clusters with the main keyword, volume, difficulty, intent and the page it belongs to, then a recommended order: page-2 keywords first, under-covered pages next, new pages last.

By default, nothing changes on your site until you approve it. A fix is staged as a proposal that says what will change and why. Approved fixes run within seconds, the page's previous state is stored, and any edit to an existing page can be rolled back. A rollback refuses to overwrite edits someone made since. Changes that could take a page out of Google, like a noindex, need an extra confirmation.

Where do the search volumes come from?
From live keyword data through SEOmatic. Volume and difficulty lookups use free questions or AI credits; Google Trends lookups and your Search Console data are free.
Does it work without Search Console?
Yes, from seed terms you give it, but the research is weaker. With Search Console connected, it starts from queries Google already shows your site for, which are the cheapest to win.
Is the Keyword Research skill free?
The skill is free and open source (MIT). Connecting is free with no card. Search Console reports, page checks and 30-page site audits are free, as often as you like. Live market data (keyword volumes, competitors, backlinks) uses free questions: 5 a month, plus a one-time 10 when you connect Search Console, and one question covers up to 5 lookups. Staging and publishing fixes is part of paid plans, which start with a 14-day trial.
