How It Works, Step by Step

You add SEOmatic with one command and sign in once in the browser.
You ask Claude Code an SEO question from your repo.
Claude Code calls SEOmatic to audit the live site, read Search Console or inspect indexing, and gets real results back as text, with the date range they cover.
It maps each finding to the file that produces it and proposes the code change, which you review like any other diff.
After you ship, it re-runs the check on the live URL to confirm the fix.

How to Connect SEOmatic to Claude Code

One command, then a one-time sign-in from inside a session. About a minute, and no Google Cloud setup.

Add the server. In your terminal, run: claude mcp add --transport http seomatic https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp
Authenticate. Start Claude Code, type /mcp, select seomatic and choose Authenticate. Sign in or create a free SEOmatic account in the browser and pick your site.
Connect Search Console. If your SEOmatic workspace has no Search Console yet, Claude Code gives you a one-click link the first time it needs your data.

Nothing Changes on Your Site Without Your Approval

Claude Code edits your code the way it always does, with your review. On the SEOmatic side, anything that would change your live site through a connected CMS is staged, never pushed. A staged change is a proposal: it says what will change and why, and nothing touches your site until you approve it. The assistant records your decision, and it is told never to approve anything on its own judgment. Approved fixes start within seconds, the page's previous state is stored, and any applied change can be rolled back. Changes that could take a page out of Google, like a noindex, need an extra explicit confirmation.

Are the numbers real, or does Claude Code guess them?

They come from your own Google Search Console through SEOmatic. Each answer names the exact date range it covers, like Sep 10 to Oct 9, 30 days, so you can check it against Search Console yourself.

Do I need a Google Cloud project to read Search Console?

No. You connect Search Console to SEOmatic with a normal Google sign-in. There is no service account to create and no JSON key file to manage.

Is it free?

Can it change my site without asking?

No. By default every change SEOmatic proposes waits for your approval before it touches your site, and your assistant is told never to approve on its own. Approved changes are stored with the page's previous state, so any edit to an existing page can be rolled back. If you later want low-risk fixes to go ahead on their own, you can turn that on in your autonomy settings; changes to your URLs or indexing, and new content, still wait for you.

Claude Code does not see the SEOmatic tools. What should I check?

Run claude mcp list to confirm seomatic is registered. If it is missing, run the claude mcp add command again. Then start a new session, since servers load at startup, type /mcp and finish Authenticate if it says the server needs sign-in.

Can I run it headless, in CI or on a cron job?

Yes. Create a workspace API key in SEOmatic, then add the server with --header "Authorization: Bearer smk_live_..." on that machine. Claude Code's headless mode, claude -p, can then run an SEO check on every deploy or every Monday.

Can it audit localhost?

No. SEOmatic fetches pages from the public internet, like a search engine does, so it cannot reach localhost or a private network. Use a publicly reachable preview deploy instead.

Is Claude Code the same as Claude or Claude Cowork?

No. Claude Code is the coding agent for your terminal and editor. Claude is the chat app, and Claude Cowork is the desktop agent for longer tasks across files and apps. All three connect to the same SEOmatic server, so one account works in each.
