How your agents decide what to fix on your site
Updated
The weekly cycle#
- They look. Every Monday morning your agents read your pages and your Search Console numbers: which pages and searches gain or lose clicks, which pages sit close to page one, what is broken.
- They propose. New tasks land in the Needs you column of the AI Agents board. Nothing on your site changes at this point.
- Someone approves. Unless you chose Approval mode, changes that can be undone, such as titles, links, structured data, page text and new articles, are approved for you. Redirects, page removals, batches of new pages and the types you ticked in Always ask first for… wait for you to click Approve. See approval modes.
- They run. The task moves to In flight and the agent writes the change to your site.
- They check. SEOmatic opens your live page several times over the next 24 hours. When it sees the change, it lists it under Live on your site. Changes made on their own also appear in a daily email, each with an Undo link. See the daily email of changes.
- They measure. After a set number of days, your agents compare the page's clicks with the rest of your site and give a verdict. See live, measuring and verified.
The board header shows when the next run happens: Runs automatically every Monday, or today or tomorrow when it is close.
Who does the work#
Each task card names the specialist who handles it. They are all part of your agents and share one plan.
| Specialist | What they handle |
|---|---|
| On-Page Optimizer | Titles and descriptions, headings, image descriptions, FAQ sections, social share previews, trust signals |
| Content Writer | New articles, refreshes of aging pages, landing pages and location pages |
| Technical SEO | Structured data for Google, indexing, redirects, the page's "real address" tag, technical checks |
| Link Builder | Links between your own pages, broken link repairs, link-building guidance |
| AI-Search Specialist | Passages that AI answer engines can quote, community outreach briefs |
| Strategist | Pages that compete with each other, and a few other tasks such as page speed |
How they choose and rank tasks#
- Your own numbers first. Tasks are sized from your Search Console data. A card's value line says, for example, Up to 120 more clicks a month for this page, from its own Search Console numbers. Pages with no data yet come after work that can be sized.
- Priority badge. Each card shows High, Medium or Low, from that score.
- Quick wins first. Until your first verified win, fast types get a head start and show a Quick win badge, for example title and description rewrites, page-one pushes and broken link repairs.
- A balanced plan. No single kind of task can fill more than 40% of your open work.
- A cap on open work. Your plan allows a set number of open tasks, and approved or running tasks count too. If your board is already full, the Monday run adds nothing new until some of that work finishes or you dismiss some.
- Old proposals fade. A proposal nobody touches for 14 days slowly drops in rank. Large campaigns that stay unapproved for 14 days are removed.
What they need to do real work#
| What is connected | What your agents can do |
|---|---|
| Search Console and your website | The full cycle: find, fix, check live, measure |
| Search Console only | Up to 3 requests asking Google to look at pages it has not indexed yet, and a sitemap submission. If there is nothing to index, up to 3 technical checks instead. Fixes from your setup scan are listed, but nothing is written to your site |
| Website only | Fix pages, but without Search Console they cannot size the work from your clicks or measure the result |
| Neither | Up to 3 technical checks from a light scan of your site |
Plans and credits
Your agents need a trial or a paid plan. On the Free plan you cannot turn them on. Every task uses AI credits, and each card shows an estimate such as About 2,500 to 8,000 credits. See how credits work.
Why the Monday run sometimes adds nothing#
- Your board already holds as many open tasks as your plan allows.
- Your workspace has fewer than 8,000 credits left this period.
- Your agents already used today's Daily credit cap. See approval modes.
- Your agents are switched off.
- Your website is not connected. Then your agents only propose requests to Google and technical checks.
- Can I ask for new work without waiting for Monday?
- Yes. Click New campaign on the board, or ask SEO Copilot in chat. Describe what you want, for example "fix every blog title". Your agents propose the plan for you to approve.
- I dismissed a task. Will the same kind of task come back?
- It can. The reason you pick when you dismiss is recorded, but today it does not stop that kind of task from being proposed again.
- Do my agents ever post on other websites or send outreach?
- No. Link-building and community tasks are advice only. They prepare a brief for you and send nothing.
