Approve tasks from email or Slack
Updated
Approve from email#
- Open the email, for example Your first fix is ready to review or proposals waiting for your approval.
- Click See and approve the fix or See and approve it.
- A page titled Approve this change opens. Click Approve to send the task to your agents, or Dismiss to remove it.
- The page confirms the result. Click Open the plan board to follow the task, or close the tab.
- 72 hours, one use. Each link works once and expires 72 hours after the email was sent. After that, approve from the board.
- Same safety checks. An approval from email goes through the same quality review as one from the board, and you can undo the change from the board later. A change to your homepage, pricing or checkout page is then held for you to apply on the board.
- Some tasks open the app instead. Redirects, hiding a page from Google, the page's "real address" tag, merges and page removals have no one-click link. Their button opens SEOmatic so an Admin can review them.
- Your role counts. Viewers can open the link but cannot approve or dismiss.
- Plan needed. If your plan is not active, the page asks you to open Billing first.
What these emails mean in each mode
Approval emails and Slack cards only ask about work that waits for a person. They do not mean nothing runs without you: unless you chose Approval mode, changes that can be undone, such as titles, links, structured data, page text and new articles, go live on their own without an email or a card asking you. They are listed in the daily email of changes, each with an Undo link. Only Approval mode waits for a yes on everything. See approval modes.
Undo from email#
If a change made results worse and the automatic undo failed, you get an email titled Action needed: a change on followed by the page. Click Roll it back, then Undo this change. This works even if your plan has lapsed.
Connect Slack#
- Sign in as the account owner. Only the owner can connect Slack.
- Go to Settings > Integrations. Under Connect apps, turn on the Slack switch.
- In Slack, allow SEOmatic and pick the channel for decision cards. For a private channel, first invite
@seomaticto it in Slack. - Back in SEOmatic, a message says Slack connected. Decision cards will post to your channel.
- Optional: click Send test card to check the channel.
Shared channels with another company (Slack Connect) cannot receive cards. You can choose One card per decision or One digest per burst, set a Channel per site, and turn on the Weekly outcome report.
Decide from Slack#
- When a card arrives, click a button such as Approve.
- The first time, Slack replies with Link your Slack account. Click it, then Continue with Slack. This proves the Slack account is yours, so your clicks count as you. The link works once, for 10 minutes.
- Go back to Slack and click the button again.
| Card | Buttons |
|---|---|
| A task waiting for approval | Approve, See the exact change, Dismiss... (with an optional reason), I did it myself, View in SEOmatic |
| A campaign plan | Approve plan, Dismiss plan..., Pause, Resume plan, Stop plan, Undo all changes |
| A change that was held for you | Review and apply, then Apply this change |
| A change that is live | Undo |
| A result that got worse | Revert |
- Tasks inside a campaign do not get their own card. You decide on the campaign as a whole.
- Redirects, hiding pages from Google and page removals ask for a confirmation in Slack and need an Admin or the Owner.
- Deciding from Slack needs an active paid plan or a trial with a card on file. If your plan lapsed, Slack shows a message with Open billing. To undo a change while your plan is lapsed, use the board instead.
- If someone else already decided, the card says so and nothing more happens.
- To unlink your Slack account, go to Settings > Account > Slack and click Unlink.
More on Slack, including the /seomatic commands, is in use SEOmatic from Slack.
- My email link says it expired or was already used.
- Each link works once and for 72 hours. Open the AI Agents board and approve the task there. If someone on your team already decided, the task has moved on.
- Can I stop the approval emails?
- Approval emails are alerts about your own site, so the email preference switches do not turn them off. Only Unsubscribe from all SEOmatic emails in the email footer stops them. See the emails your agents send.
- Slack says it is not available.
- Email contact@seomatic.ai. A person replies, usually within one business day.
