How to connect HubSpot, and what agents can change there
Updated
Before you start#
- Plan: blog access needs Content Hub Starter or higher, or Marketing Hub Professional or higher.
- Sign in with a HubSpot user who can install apps on the account.
Connect HubSpot#
- In the sidebar, under Setup, click Connections. On the HubSpot row, click Add Connection.
- Click Connect with HubSpot.
- Sign in to HubSpot, pick your account and approve. You land back with a green Active status.
Already have a private app token? Paste it under or paste an existing private app token instead. It needs the content scope.
What your agents can change on HubSpot#
| Change | What happens | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Blog posts: title, text, URL | Live | |
| Blog posts: SEO title, meta description, canonical | Live | |
| Blog posts: noindex and structured data | Live | Written into the post's head HTML |
| Website and landing pages: SEO title, meta description, URL, canonical | Live | If someone has a pending draft of the page open, your agent holds the change so it never publishes their work |
| Website and landing pages: text | Paste | HubSpot builds this text from modules, which apps cannot rewrite safely |
| Featured image alt text on posts and pages | Live | |
| Redirects | One click | Click Apply on my site on the task |
| New blog posts | Live | Once a blog is chosen (below) |
Choose the blog for new articles#
If you paste a private app token, Choose where agent articles go opens right after you connect. After Connect with HubSpot, or if you skip it, the connection card asks until a blog is chosen: click Choose a blog. Until then, agent articles wait in SEOmatic. Change it any time with Change next to Agent articles publish to.
Updating a private app token resets the blog
If you click Edit and paste a new private app token, choose the blog again on the connection card.
Fix connection errors#
| You see | What to do |
|---|---|
| HubSpot could not authorize the connection: followed by a reason | The reason comes from HubSpot, often your plan or a limit on installed apps. Fix that in HubSpot, then click Connect with HubSpot again. |
| Authorization was denied | Cancel was clicked on HubSpot. Click Connect with HubSpot again and approve. |
- Why can my agent not rewrite the text of my website pages?
- HubSpot website and landing pages are built from modules. Your agent sets their SEO fields and gives you new text to paste. Blog posts are fully edited.
- Does SEOmatic publish my teammates' drafts?
- No. If a page has a pending draft, your agent holds its change and tells you, so unfinished work never goes live.
