How to connect Ghost, and what agents can change there
Updated
Before you start#
- You need Ghost 5.0 or later.
- You need Administrator access to create an integration.
Connect Ghost#
- In Ghost admin, open Settings, then Integrations, and click Add custom integration. Name it SEOmatic.
- Copy the Admin API key and the API URL shown on that page. Use the Admin API key, not the Content API key.
- In SEOmatic, on the Ghost row, click Add Connection. Paste the API URL (like yoursite.ghost.io) and the Admin API Key, then click Connect.

What your agents can change on Ghost#
| Change | What happens | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Title, text and URL of posts and pages | Live | |
| SEO title and meta description | Live | |
| Open Graph and Twitter titles and descriptions | Live | Set in Ghost's own social fields |
| Canonical | Live | Only when it points to another address. See below |
| Structured data | Live | Added through the post's code injection |
| Featured image alt text | Live | |
| New posts and pages | Live | |
| Noindex | Paste | Ghost has no noindex field. See below |
| Redirects | Paste | Ghost's redirects upload does not accept API keys |
Why noindex is paste on Ghost
Ghost has no noindex setting. A noindex tag added through code injection hides the page from Google but leaves it in your sitemap, which sends Google mixed signals. So your agent gives you the change to make in Ghost rather than writing it.
Canonical pointing to the page itself
Ghost already adds a canonical that points to each page. Your agents never write one that points to the same page, because older Ghost versions drop such posts from the sitemap.
Fix connection errors#
| You see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Invalid Admin API key format... | You pasted the Content API key. Copy the Admin API key from the same integration page. |
| Invalid Admin API key. Please check your credentials. | Copy the key again. If you regenerated it in Ghost, paste the new one. |
| Ghost Admin API not found. Please check your domain. | Paste the API URL exactly as the integration page shows it. |
- Can my agents write new posts on Ghost?
- Yes. After you approve a content campaign, finished articles are published to your Ghost site.
- How do I add a redirect my agent suggests?
- The task gives you the rule. In Ghost, open Settings, then Labs, download your redirects file, add the rule, and upload it again. Then click I've pasted it on the task.
