Get an Alert When a Ranking Really Drops, with the Fix Ready
Updated
Daily positions swing by a place or two on their own. Alerts on every swing are noise, and noise gets muted. Smart alerts wait until a move is real, then tell you once.
What Counts as a Real Move#
| Alert | When it fires (smart alerts) |
|---|---|
| A search dropped | It held at least 3 places below its usual place for 2 days in a row. Its usual place comes from the 7 checks before. A search that falls out of the top 20 counts as a drop. |
| Left the Google Maps top 3 | You were in the Google Maps top 3 the check before, and today Google shows the map without you. A day when Google shows no map at all does not count. |
| A service dropped together | 30% or more of the searches in one service dropped 3 places or more over the week. The service needs at least 3 searches. |
| Ranking page changed | Google now ranks a different page of your site than the one that held the search for the 3 checks before. Your two pages compete for it. |
Each move alerts once, on the day it first qualifies. A drop that keeps holding does not alert again.
Change Your Alerts#
- Open Search Visibility > Keywords and click Tracked.
- Click the alerts button at the top right. It reads Smart alerts, Alerts when you set your own rules, or Alerts off.
- Keep Smart alerts (recommended) on, or turn it off to set your own rules.
- Under When, pick Same day, Weekly digest only or Off (fixes still wait on the board).
- Click Save.
With Smart alerts off, four rules appear under Customize:
| Rule | Default | Range |
|---|---|---|
| Drops this many places | 3 | 1 to 20 |
| And holds this many days | 2 | 1 to 7 |
| % of a service moving together | 30 | 10 to 100 |
| Leaves the Google Maps top 3 | On | On or off |
Where Alerts Go#
- Email: with Same day, the workspace owner gets one email that names what moved and whether a fix is ready. It follows your email preferences in Settings > Account.
- Slack: when Slack is connected, the same line posts to your channel with a link to the Tracked page, and each fix gets its own card with Approve. See use SEOmatic from Slack.
- Weekly digest only: no same-day email or Slack line. Your tracked searches and what moved are in the weekly report email instead.
- Off: no alerts at all. Fixes are still staged on the board.
- Your AI assistant or automations can get the Ranking dropped and Ranking page changed events. See have your AI assistant act when something changes.
Approve the Fix on the AI Agents Board#
Each alert stages a fix for the page that serves the search, at most 3 a day for each site. A drop gets a fix that closes the gap with what now ranks above you. A Google Maps top 3 exit gets a fix that makes the page say plainly what you do there, with the same name, address and phone as your Business Profile. A page change gets a fix that makes one page the clear answer.
- Click Review fix on the Tracked page or Review the fix in the alert email, or use Approve on the Slack card.
- The fix opens on the AI Agents board with the exact before and after.
- Click Approve to let your agents make the change, or Dismiss. Live changes can be undone in one click.
These fixes always wait for you
A fix from a ranking alert rewrites a page you care about, so it never goes live on its own, whatever your approval mode. See approve, dismiss or undo a task.
- I got no alert, but a search went down.
- Smart alerts stay quiet for 1 or 2 place swings and for drops that last a single day. The move still shows in What Moved This Week once it is 3 places or more. For more alerts, turn off Smart alerts and lower the rules.
- Do alerts cost credits?
- No. Alerts read the daily checks you already pay for. Running an approved fix uses credits like any other task.
- Who can change the alert settings?
- Members, Admins and the Owner. Viewers can open the panel but cannot save.
