What happens to your site and your data when you cancel
Updated
What happens, and when#
| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| Right after you cancel | No more charges. Work your agents do on their own stops. On a paid plan, changes you approve yourself still run. A banner shows Subscription Ending with your end date. |
| On the end date | Your workspace moves to the Free plan. You get an email with a button to reactivate. |
| Any time after | Your data is still there. Pick a plan again in Settings > Plans to turn the agents back on. |
Cancelled a trial? The end date is your trial end date, and your plan is never charged. Your agents stop right away, unless you cancelled with the reason I don't want to be charged automatically. See cancel your subscription or trial.
What stays#
- Every change on your website. Titles, page edits, structured data, links and articles your agents published live on your own site. Cancelling never removes or rolls them back.
- All your data in SEOmatic. Workspaces, task history, results, reports, brand settings and connections. Nothing is deleted when you cancel.
- SEO Copilot, with the Free plan's 5 questions a month.
- Your Search Console insights.
- Undo. Any change your agents made can still be reversed after your plan ends.
- API keys that read data. Keys that make changes stop working.
What stops#
- Agents that change your site: no new fixes, articles or campaigns.
- Approved tasks that have not run yet, and anything waiting to be published or written.
- SEO Copilot questions beyond the Free plan's 5 a month.
Pages SEOmatic hosts for you#
This is the one exception to "it all lives on your site". If you use hosted pages (on Scale and above), those pages are served by SEOmatic on an address you pointed at us, not by your own platform. Cancelling does not take them offline. Deleting their workspace or your account removes them for good. If you plan to delete, move those pages to your own platform first.
Keep a copy of your data#
Before you confirm a cancellation, the summary screen has a link: Download a copy of your account data. You can also download it any time from Settings > Account, with Download a copy of your personal data (JSON). Your published content already lives on your own site.
Want your site back the way it was?#
You do not have to undo anything. If you want to, Owners and Admins can reverse every agent change at once:
- Open Settings > AI Agents with the workspace selected.
- In Undo everything, click Undo all agent changes.
- Click Undo everything to confirm. Pages go back to how they were before the agent touched them.
A page someone edited after the agent's change is skipped and listed, so a newer edit is never overwritten. Published articles are not deleted: unpublish them in your platform if you want them gone.
Cancel, pause or delete?#
| Cancel | Pause | Delete account | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Charges | Stop at the end of the period | None during the pause | Stop, no refund |
| Your data | Kept | Kept | Removed for good after 30 days |
| Changes on your site | Stay | Stay | Stay |
| Using SEOmatic | Free plan after the end date | Locked until you resume | Agents off at once; you can cancel the deletion for 30 days |
| Coming back | Pick a plan, no new trial | Resume any time, or it resumes on its own | Not possible after 30 days |
- Do I get a new free trial if I come back later?
- No. There is one trial per person. When you come back, you choose a plan and pay from day one.
- Will my Search Console or website connection be removed?
- No. Connections stay in place, so your agents can pick up where they stopped if you reactivate.
- Can I reactivate before the end date?
- Yes. In Billing Details, click Reactivate {Plan}. Nothing changes and billing carries on as before.
