Upgrade, downgrade or switch to yearly billing
Updated
Change your plan#
- In the sidebar, click Settings, then the Plans tab.
- At the top, choose Billed Monthly or Billed Yearly.
- On the plan you want, click Upgrade, Downgrade or Switch to yearly.
- Read the window. It shows your current plan, the new plan and what you pay.
- Click Confirm Upgrade, Confirm Downgrade or Switch to yearly. The page reloads on your new plan.
If your bank asks to confirm
An upgrade may open Confirm your switch to {Plan} when your bank wants to approve the payment or the card is declined. Your plan only changes once the payment goes through. If you close that window, you stay on your current plan.
What you pay#
| Change | On a paid plan | During a trial |
|---|---|---|
| Upgrade | A prorated charge today for the rest of this billing period. The full new price starts at your next renewal. | Nothing today. The new plan's price is charged when the trial ends, minus the $1 trial fee. |
| Downgrade | Starts now. The unused part of this period becomes a credit on your next invoice. | Nothing today. The new plan's price is charged when the trial ends, minus the $1 trial fee. |
| Monthly to yearly | The yearly price today, minus a credit for the unused part of your current month. Then it renews once a year. | Nothing today. The first charge is the yearly price when the trial ends, minus the $1 trial fee. |
| Yearly to monthly | Shows as Upgrade, because monthly costs more per month. The unused part of your year becomes a credit. | Nothing today. |
On a trial, ignore the "prorated amount" note
During a trial, the upgrade and downgrade windows still say you are charged or credited a prorated amount today. That is not the case: the plan changes with no charge, and your trial keeps its end date. The Billing Details tab shows your real first charge and its date.
Yearly billing#
- Yearly costs 10 times the monthly price, which is why the toggle says 2 months off. Prices are on the pricing page.
- You still get your monthly credits every month. They refill at the start of each calendar month.
Start your plan before the trial ends#
Need the full plan now, for example because your trial credits are used up? Click Start {Plan} now in the trial banner. The trial ends today, your plan's first payment is charged on the card you saved, and the full credits and limits are ready in a few seconds.
When a downgrade is blocked#
| You see | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Cannot downgrade due to credit usage | You already used more credits this period than the smaller plan includes. | Downgrade after your credits reset at the start of the next period. |
| Cannot downgrade due to workspace count | You have more workspaces than the smaller plan allows. | Delete the workspaces you no longer need in Settings > Workspaces, then try again. See delete a workspace. |
| A step asking which team members to keep | The smaller plan has fewer seats. | Pick who stays. The others are suspended, and you can reactivate them later if a seat frees up. Viewers never need a seat. |
Extra workspace add-ons above what the new plan allows (2 on Launch, 5 on Scale) are removed, and you get an email listing the change.
When a plan change is refused#
- Your payment failed. You see Cannot change plan while payment is past due. Pay first: see fix a failed payment.
- Your plan is set to cancel. Click Reactivate {Plan} in Billing Details first, then change plan.
- Your plan is paused. Changing plan ends the pause.
- You are on Enterprise. Plan changes go through our team: email contact@seomatic.ai.
Only the account owner can change plans
Admins, Members and Viewers do not see the Plans tab. They see Only the organization owner can start a trial or change the plan. Ask them to upgrade from Settings. Ask the owner, or have them make you the owner from Settings > Team.
- Do I lose anything when I downgrade?
- No data is deleted. You get the smaller plan's credits, seats and workspaces from now on.
- I cancelled and want to come back. Is that a plan change?
- Before the end date, click Reactivate {Plan} in Billing Details. After it, choose a plan in Settings > Plans and pay today.
- I need more credits but not a bigger plan.
- Buy a one-time credit pack. See what happens when you run out of credits.
