The 5 setup steps#
| Step | What you do | Can you skip it? |
|---|---|---|
| 1. What's your website? | Type your domain, for example acme.com, and click Next β. | No. The domain must exist on the public internet. |
| 2. Connect Google Search Console, then Connect your site (or Which CMS do you primarily use?) | Sign in with Google and pick your site. Then connect the platform your website runs on, such as WordPress or Shopify. | Yes. Click I'll do this later, then Continue β. You can connect both later. |
| 3. Invite your team | Add teammates by email and pick a role for each. Invitations go out when you start your trial or a paid plan. | Yes, with I'll do this later. |
| 4. Scanning AI visibility | Wait while SEOmatic asks AI search engines real buyer questions about your brand. This first scan is free. | It runs on its own. After 4 minutes you can click Finish in the background and see the report on your dashboard β. |
| 5. How should your agents work? | Pick Approval, Assisted or Auto, then click Start my agents. | You can change the mode later in Settings > AI Agents. |

Your progress is saved after each step. If you close the tab, you come back to the same step.
Which mode to pick
Approval: your agents suggest every change and wait, nothing goes live until you say yes. Assisted (marked Recommended): changes that can be undone, like titles, descriptions, internal links, structured data, page text and articles, go live on their own once our checks pass, and you get a daily email with a one-click undo for each. Campaigns of new pages, bulk changes, redirects and removals wait for your yes. Auto: the same as Assisted today, within your daily credit cap. See approval modes.
If you finish step 4 in the background, or the scan fails and you click Go to dashboard, step 5 is skipped. Your agents then start in Approval mode when you start your trial.
Choose the trial or Free#
After setup, your dashboard opens behind a plan picker. Nothing on the dashboard works until the account owner makes one of two choices.
| Choice | What you get | What it costs |
|---|---|---|
| Start 14-day trial on a plan card | Your agents can find, make and measure fixes on your site. 500,000 AI credits for the trial. | $1 today on the secure Stripe page, not refunded but taken off your first payment. See how the trial works. |
| Continue with Free | SEO Copilot (5 questions a month), your Search Console data and read-only fix cards. Your agents stay off. | Nothing. See what Free includes. |
- Choosing Free does not use up your trial. You can start it later from Settings > Billing Details.
- Choosing Free switches off agents you started in step 5. Starting a trial switches them back on.
- If the button says Choose Plan instead of Start 14-day trial, you already had a trial or a subscription before, and the plan is billed today.
- Teammates see Only the organization owner can update the plan or billing. Ask the owner to choose.
After checkout, a banner at the top of your dashboard confirms that your trial is active and shows the date it ends. If you see Confirming your payment or Almost there instead, wait a minute and refresh the page.
The three things that get your agents working#
- Connect Google Search Console. Your agents see which pages and searches gain or lose clicks, and they measure every change against it. See connect Google Search Console.
- Connect your website. This is what lets your agents change pages. Without it, every fix arrives as text for you to paste. See connect your website.
- Approve your first fix. Open AI Agents and approve the card Your first fix is ready. See approve your first fix.
Search Console alone is not enough
Many people connect Search Console and stop there. Your agents then plan good work but cannot make a single change. Connect your website too.
What happens next#
- Right after your trial starts, AI Agents shows Your agents are finding your first work. The first tasks usually land within a few minutes.
- Your agents plan new work every Monday. Tasks that need you wait in the Needs you column.
- Each change is measured against your own Search Console data. Title changes get a first verdict after about 2 weeks, content updates after about 4, new pages after about 3 months. See when you will see results.
- The Getting started card on your dashboard tracks what is left to do.
- Do I have to connect Search Console?
- No, but without it your agents plan from best guesses, and a change can be made but never verified as a win. Measuring needs your Search Console data.
- The first run says That first run hit a snag. What now?
- Nothing changed on your site. Click Try again. If it fails again, email contact@seomatic.ai. A person replies, usually within one business day.
- Can I change my website domain later?
- Each workspace works on one site. To work on another site, add a workspace. See add another website.
