When you will see results, and why some fixes take weeks
Updated
The timeline of one fix#
| When | What happens | Where you see it |
|---|---|---|
| Minutes after approval | The agent writes the change to your site | The card moves to Measuring |
| 2 minutes to 24 hours | SEOmatic opens your live page at about 2 minutes, 10 minutes, 1 hour, 6 hours and 24 hours to look for the change | Once seen, it appears under Live on your site with Checked on your site |
| Days to weeks | Google re-reads the page and starts showing the new version | Search Console numbers, 2 to 3 days behind |
| 7 days | Earliest possible win for title and description rewrites, social previews, article tune-ups, page-one pushes and internal links | The card may show So far: with early clicks |
| 14 to 90 days | The measuring window ends and your agents give a verdict | Confirmed: it worked or another verdict. See what each status means |
How long each kind of fix takes to judge#
| Kind of fix | Verdict after | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Title and description rewrites, social previews, image descriptions, broken links, structured data | 14 days | Search results need a couple of weeks to react |
| FAQ sections, freshness dates, citable passages, author and local business data | 21 days | Search results need a few weeks to react. Local signals move slower than ordinary results |
| Internal links, headings, page refreshes, trust signals, page speed | 28 days | Google scores page speed over a rolling 28 days. The others need a few weeks for Google to re-read and re-rank pages |
| AI search answers, brand ID card | 30 days | These signals move slower than ordinary search results |
| Page-one pushes, pages that compete with each other | 42 days | Rankings need time to settle after a change like this |
| New articles, landing pages, location pages | 90 days | A new page needs a full quarter before the result is real |
Each card in Measuring says when its verdict is due and why, for example Verdict around a date. Every type is listed in every type of fix.
Why Search Console looks behind#
- Google's own data runs 2 to 3 days behind. The last few days are always missing, in SEOmatic and in Search Console itself.
- A brand-new Search Console property may show no data for days or weeks.
- If data is missing during the window, your agents extend it once by half, then call the result unclear rather than guess.
- If rankings move across many sites at once (usually a Google update) and the result is not a win, your agents wait 7 more days before judging.
Why your verdict may say "no measurable effect"#
Your agents only call something a win when the gain is clear of normal ups and downs: more than 10% better than the rest of your site, at least 5 extra clicks, and a gain larger than normal day-to-day noise. A page with very little traffic often cannot clear that bar, even when the change helped. That is honesty, not failure: your agents never claim a win they cannot prove.
Get to your first result sooner
Start with title and description rewrites on pages that already get impressions in Google. They can show an early win after 7 days. The board marks them Quick win. See approve your first fix.
Where to check progress#
- On the board: the Measuring column shows each change's due date and any early reading.
- Live feed: click Live feed on the board for a summary of the last two days.
- Every Monday: the weekly report email lists changes live, verdicts coming and wins. See the emails your agents send.
- Ask SEO Copilot "What did my agents change and what did it do?" for a summary in your own words.
- My impressions and ranking went up but clicks went down. Is that bad?
- Not always. A page that ranks for more searches can show to people less likely to click, which lowers the click rate. Your agents judge each change on clicks against the rest of your site, so a verdict accounts for this.
- My change is in Measuring but not under Live on your site. Is it live?
- Not confirmed. Your site accepted it, but SEOmatic has not seen it on the live page yet. A cache, your theme or an SEO plugin can hide it. See my site still shows the old version.
