Post a Weekly Google Update From a Job Photo, and Fill the Gaps in Your Profile
Updated
Google shows the updates you post on your Business Profile (Google calls them updates). A listing that posts every week looks active to customers. SEOmatic writes the text, so all you send is a photo of real work.
Draft This Week's Update#
- Open Business Profile > Updates in the sidebar.
- In Send a Job Photo, drag a photo onto the box or click it to choose one. Use a JPG or PNG under 5 MB. Google does not take WebP.
- Type one line about the job, what you did and where, for example same-day crown, SE Portland.
- Click Draft update. The draft appears under This Week's Update with the badge Waiting for you.
- Read it. Click Edit to change the text, then Save.
- Click Approve and publish. The badge says Approved, waiting for Google until it is live.
- The draft uses only facts from your note and, when one fits, a page of your site, named under the text. It never makes up prices, dates or claims.
- Every update has at most one photo and a Call now button. The text never contains a phone number or a link: Google rejects those.
- The photo is also added to your profile photos when the update is published.
- Skip this week drops the draft. Nothing is posted.
- No photo at hand? Type the line and click Draft update anyway. The update then has no photo.
- Drafting uses a small number of AI credits. Approving and publishing is free.
Send it from Slack
With Slack connected, send the photo to SEOmatic in a direct message with one line about the job. It drafts the update and posts the approval card to your channel. If you have several sites, start the line with the site name. See use SEOmatic from Slack.
A Reminder on Update Day#
If no update was drafted in the week, SEOmatic emails the workspace owner on update day (Tuesday by default) with the subject This week's Business Profile update and a Send a photo button. You can change the day by asking your connected assistant, for example "Move my Business Profile update day to Friday".
Fill the Gaps in Your Profile#
Profile Completeness scores your listing and lists what is done and what is missing: name, address and phone matching your site, primary category, description, opening hours, service areas that cover the cities you track, services that match your site, holiday hours, and a new photo in the last 2 weeks.
- When your agent has proposed edits, click Review 3 edits (the number changes).
- Each edit shows the field, the new value and why. Low-risk edits, such as services, service areas, hours or the description, are approved together with Approve followed by their number.
- Name, address and primary category edits say needs your explicit OK and each has its own Approve button.
Name, address and category never change on their own
Edits to the business name, address or primary category are a top cause of profile suspensions. SEOmatic never makes them by itself and never batches them: each needs your explicit OK, one at a time. A name with added keywords, such as a city or "best", is refused because it breaks Google's rules. Adding a category is a handoff: approving gives you the steps to do it in Google yourself.
Published Updates#
Published lists your past updates with the date each went live. View opens it on Google.
Why there is no view count per update
Google stopped reporting views for each update in 2023, so SEOmatic does not show one rather than make one up. How often your profile is seen is the Times shown in Search and Maps count on the Overview, and the dashed lines on the calls chart show what happened after each update. See read your Business Profile Overview.
- Can I post more than one update a week?
- Yes. Send another photo after you approve this week's. The page shows the newest draft.
- Who can draft and approve updates?
- Members, Admins and the Owner. Viewers can read the page.
- Google refused my update.
- It stays at Approved, waiting for Google and is not posted. The usual cause is the photo. Send a new update with a JPG or PNG under 5 MB.
