SEOmatic is looking at the wrong site, or at old data
Updated
Match what you see#
| What you see | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Reports, tasks or answers about a different website | The wrong workspace is selected, or the workspace uses another site's Search Console property. | Check the workspace, then the property (steps below). |
| "Heads up: this CMS is a different website" on the Connections page | The connected website is not the site this workspace tracks, for example a staging copy. Agents will not edit pages through it. | Disconnect it and connect the right site. See fix a broken connection. |
| Your platform's admin address or an API address instead of your public site | The workspace has no Search Console property, so it fell back to another address. | Pick your site's Search Console property. It decides which site the workspace tracks. |
| www and non-www versions of your site | SEOmatic treats www.example.com and example.com as the same site. | Nothing to fix for the site itself. In Search Console, pick the property that covers your whole site (see below). |
| Keyword ideas, prices or competitors from the wrong country or language | The search market was guessed from your site and is wrong. | Change Search market (steps below). |
| Work about topics your business does not cover | Your agents do not yet know which searches matter to you. | List them under Searches that bring you business, and add real facts to your Trust Profile (steps below). |
| A page reported as broken or missing (404) that loads fine for you | The report came from older data, or your site blocks automated visitors, so the page looked broken to us. | Ask SEO Copilot to check that page again. Dismiss the task if it is wrong. If your site blocks bots, allow SEOmatic in your firewall or security plugin. |
| Clicks and rankings that look a few days behind | Google's Search Console data is about 2 to 3 days behind real time. | Nothing. This is normal for every tool that uses Search Console. |
Check the workspace#
- Look at the top of the sidebar. The workspace switcher shows the selected workspace and its connected site.
- If it is the wrong one, click it and pick the right workspace. One workspace is one website.
Change the Search Console property#
- In the sidebar, click SEO Copilot.
- In the left column, point at the Search Console row and click the pencil icon (Change property).
- In Select Search Console Property, pick your site's property and click Confirm.
- Two rows look the same? The list shows a Domain property and a URL-prefix property for the same site both as "example.com". The Domain property covers www, non-www and every subdomain, so pick it when you have one. See connect Google Search Console.
- Your history is rebuilt. When you switch to a different property, SEOmatic deletes the stored weekly history and rebuilds it from the new property.
- Greyed-out rows say "Not verified for your Google account - verify it in Search Console first". Verify the site in Google Search Console, then pick it.
- Who can change it: members, admins and the owner. The owner's Google account must be able to read the property, because SEOmatic reads Search Console through the owner's connection.
Fix the market and the topics#
- Go to Settings > AI Agents > Your site and market.
- Under Search market, pick the country and language your customers search in. Your agents use it for research, planning and measuring from then on. If your AI visibility scans still measure another country, a note says so: add the new market under AI Visibility Scans on the same page.
- Under Searches that bring you business, click Add search. Type a search your customers use and the page that should show for it. Add as many as you need, then click Save.
- Scroll to Trust Profile and check the facts about your business. Click Wrong on anything untrue and add what is missing.
If the questions tracked for AI answers are off-topic, open AI Visibility > Prompts to remove them and click Add prompt to add your own. Only admins and the owner see Your site and market and Trust Profile.
How fresh is the data?#
| Data | How often it updates |
|---|---|
| Your Google clicks and rankings (Search Console) | Google's data runs about 2 to 3 days behind. Search Visibility reads it from Google and refreshes within the hour. The copy your agents plan from refreshes daily on paid plans and weekly on the Free plan. |
| Your website's pages and content (connected site) | Right after you connect, then once a day. Only changed pages are re-read. |
| Whether a change shows on your live page | About 2 minutes, 10 minutes, 1 hour, 6 hours and 24 hours after it is saved. |
| AI answers about your brand | Weekly by default. Click Re-scan now on AI Visibility for a fresh scan, which uses AI credits. |
- Can I change the website address I typed at signup?
- There is no setting for it. Connecting Search Console or your website takes priority over that address, so pick the right property or connection. If you have neither, email contact@seomatic.ai. A person replies, usually within one business day.
- Will changing the property delete my tasks?
- No. Your existing tasks stay. Your agents re-plan with the new property's data, and the stored weekly Search Console history is rebuilt from it.
- I manage several sites. Why do I see another client's data?
- Check which workspace is selected at the top of the sidebar. Each client site needs its own workspace. See run client sites from one account.
