The three places, at a glance
| Place | How to get there | What it controls |
|---|---|---|
| SEO Settings (site-wide) | Dashboard > SEO & GEO > Tools and settings > SEO Settings | Title and description patterns per page type, indexing per type, social tags, URL structure for products and posts, preset structured data, extra tags |
| Page SEO panel | Wix Editor: Pages & Menu > page > More Actions > SEO basics. Wix Studio: Pages > page > More Actions > SEO Basics | One page's title, description, slug, index toggle, canonical, JSON-LD, extra tags, social share |
| App item SEO | In the app's dashboard, open a product, post or service and find its SEO settings | The same fields for one product, post, service or event |

The rule: a page-level setting overrides the site-wide pattern for that page only.
Site-wide SEO Settings: patterns per page type
Each page type (Main pages, Products, Blog posts and so on) has its own tab. In each you set:
- Title tag and meta description patterns, with static text and variables like Page Name or Product Name.
- Indexing: whether search engines may index this page type.
- Social share: og:title, og:description and og:image, plus separate X (Twitter) card settings.
- URL structure: for Products and Blog posts only.
- Structured data markup: up to 5 markups per setting, including the preset.
- Additional tags: up to 10 custom
<meta>or<link>tags.
Wix's default patterns are short. Here are the defaults (Wix default SEO settings) next to a better pattern for a small business:
| Page type | Wix default title | A better pattern |
|---|---|---|
| Main pages | Page Name \| Site Name | Override per page. A pattern cannot know your offer |
| Products | Product Name \| Site Name | Product Name, Brand \| Site Name |
| Blog posts | Post Name \| Site Name | Keep it, and write a custom title on posts that get impressions |
| Events | Event Name \| Site Name | Event Name, City and Date \| Site Name |
The main pages default is the one to fix. A page named "Home" ships with the title "Home | Site Name". Wix also leaves meta descriptions blank on main pages and blog posts until you write them.
The page SEO panel, tab by tab
Basics
- URL slug: the last part of the page URL. Wix redirects a renamed regular page for you.
- Title tag: say what the page offers and where, in about 50 to 60 characters.
- Meta description: one or two plain sentences with one concrete fact.
- Let search engines index this page: the index toggle. Off means noindex.
Advanced SEO
- Canonical: Wix adds a self-referencing canonical to every page. Change it only when a page truly copies another.
- Structured data markup: up to 5 JSON-LD markups per page, each under 7,000 characters (Wix). Our Wix structured data guide covers this tab.
- Additional tags: up to 10
<meta>and<link>tags.
Social share
- The text and image people see when the page is shared, with an option for different X (Twitter) settings.
Bulk indexing with Edit by Page
In SEO Settings, the Edit by Page tab lists your pages so you can check and change several at once. Select pages, then set them as indexable or not, or reset them to the defaults. Today this works for main pages and blog posts.
Use it once a quarter: sort by indexing and make sure no page you care about is set to noindex. It is the fastest way to catch a page someone hid while it was being built.
Common mistakes in Wix SEO settings
- A robots meta tag added in Additional tags. A stray
noindextag there hides the page or the whole page type. Use the index toggle instead. - Old verification tags. Google, Bing and Pinterest tags from past setups pile up in the 10-tag slots. Remove the ones you no longer use.
- Overriding everything. Custom titles on 200 product pages are hard to keep up. Use a good pattern and override only top sellers.
- Canonical pointing to the homepage. Copied settings sometimes leave every page's canonical on one URL. Google may then ignore those pages.
- Blog tags indexed without content. Wix keeps tag pages and monthly archives out of the index by default. Only switch them on if each tag page is a real, curated topic page.
Where to start if you only have 30 minutes
- Edit by Page: confirm no money page is noindexed.
- Main pages: write a custom title and description for your homepage and your top 5 service or product pages.
- Products: change the title pattern if you sell under a brand people search for.
- Additional tags: delete anything you cannot explain.
Then check Search Console a few weeks later: Performance > Pages shows whether the pages you rewrote get more clicks.
How to use this with an AI assistant
Connect SEOmatic at https://seomatic.ai/mcp and ask: "Run site_audit on mysite.com and list Wix pages with duplicate or missing titles, missing meta descriptions, noindex or a canonical pointing elsewhere. Draft new titles and descriptions for my top 10 pages and stage them with task_manage for my approval." This needs a free SEOmatic sign-in; changes go live only after you approve them.
