Before you publish: the post SEO tab
Open the post: Blog > Edit next to the post > SEO tab > Basics (Wix blog URLs).
- URL slug. Short, lowercase, the main words of the topic.
/post/repair-a-tent-zipperbeats/post/how-i-finally-fixed-my-old-tent-zipper-on-a-rainy-weekend. - SEO title. The default is "Post Name | Site Name" (Wix). If your post title is long or clever, write a plainer SEO title with the words people search.
- Meta description. Wix leaves it blank, so Google writes its own. Write one or two plain sentences that say what the reader will learn.
Do these three before the first publish. Everything else can be fixed later. The slug cannot be changed later without a manual redirect.
Slugs: the one blog trap on Wix
Wix adds a 301 redirect automatically when you rename pages, products, categories, bookings services, events and Online Programs. Blog posts are the exception (Wix 301 redirects).
- If you must change a published slug, add the redirect the same day. SEO & GEO > Tools and settings > URL Redirect Manager > New Redirect, old path to new URL. Step by step: Wix 301 redirects.
The /post/ prefix
- Rename it once, or leave it. You can rename
/post/(for example to/articles/) but not remove it, and it cannot match the blog feed prefix (Wix). The prefix barely affects rankings. Details in Wix URL structure.
Structure that people and AI answers can quote
- Answer first. Put a two or three sentence answer to the post's question right under the title. It helps readers who skim, and it is the kind of passage search features and AI assistants quote.
- Use real headings. In the post editor, use Heading 2 for sections and Heading 3 inside them. Do not make text big and bold instead. One H1 per post is enough, and Wix uses the post title for it.
- Use lists and tables for steps, prices and comparisons.
Links and images
- Link every post to the page it supports. A post about tent care should link to your tents category or your repair service. Use words that describe the page, not "click here". Then link back to the post from one or two related posts.
- Write alt text for each image. Describe what is in it in a few words: "Fixing a tent zipper slider with pliers". Google uses alt text to understand images (Google image SEO). Do not stuff keywords into it.
Categories and tag pages
- Index categories, keep tags out. On Wix, all category pages are indexed by default, while tag pages and monthly archive pages "are not indexed by default unless you choose to let search engines index them" (Wix default SEO settings). Keep that. Use 5 to 10 categories with a short intro on each, and use tags only as navigation.
| Blog page type | Wix default | Our advice |
|---|---|---|
| Post pages | Indexed | Keep |
| Category pages | Indexed | Keep, add a short intro |
| Tag pages | Not indexed | Keep out of the index unless curated |
| Monthly archives | Not indexed | Keep out |
Refresh old posts from Search Console
- Update before you write new. Once a quarter, open Search Console > Performance > Pages, filter to your blog URLs (contains
/post/) and compare the last 3 months with the 3 months before. Posts that lost clicks or show many impressions but few clicks are your best candidates. Update the facts, the answer at the top and the SEO title. Keep the same URL.
A worked example on a fictional site: brightsmile-dental.com has a post on teeth whitening with 9,000 impressions and 40 clicks in 3 months. The SEO title is "Our Thoughts on Whitening". Changing it to "Teeth Whitening: Costs, Options and Safety" matches what people search. Check clicks again 28 days after the change.
How to use this with an AI assistant
Connect SEOmatic at https://seomatic.ai/mcp and ask: "Use gsc_insights ctr_outliers and gsc_performance compare_periods by page on mysite.com, filtered to my /post/ URLs. List the 10 blog posts with the biggest click losses or weakest titles, and draft new SEO titles and descriptions for my approval." This needs a free SEOmatic sign-in.
