Is Wix good for SEO?
Yes, for most small business sites and stores. Google says it does not rank pages differently based on the system that built them, and a Wix page can rank as well as a WordPress page with the same content and links (Google SEO Starter Guide).
Where Wix differs is control. You get a fixed set of settings instead of plugins and server access. That is a good trade for most owners, with three real limits worth knowing:
| Area | What Wix gives you | The limit |
|---|---|---|
| Redirects | URL Redirect Manager, CSV import | 5,000 per site, 500 per CSV file, custom domain only |
| URL structure | Change or remove /product-page/, rename /post/ | Blog post prefix cannot be removed; some app prefixes are fixed |
| Code | Custom code, Velo | Tags set outside onReady may not be seen by Google |
If you sell thousands of products or need custom server rules, those limits matter. For a local business or a store with a few hundred products, they rarely do. The full verdict: Is Wix good for SEO?
The 10 Wix SEO fixes that matter most
These are the High priority rows from the checklist, in the order we would do them.
- Connect Google Search Console. SEO & GEO > SEO Setup Checklist > Connect to Google. You need a Premium plan and a connected domain, and it works once per site (Wix).
- Check no page is noindexed by accident. SEO Settings > Edit by Page lets you see and change indexing in bulk (Wix).
- Give every money page its own title. The default is "Page Name | Site Name", so your homepage ships as "Home | Site Name" (Wix).
- Write meta descriptions. Wix leaves them blank on main pages by default.
- Delete template filler text. Search Google for
site:yourdomain.com "I'm a paragraph". - Put key words in real text, not images. Google cannot read a headline baked into a picture.
- Redirect every changed blog slug by hand. Wix creates automatic 301s for pages, Stores, Bookings and Events, but not for Wix Blog (Wix).
- Map old URLs if you moved to Wix. URL Redirect Manager > Import, up to 500 rows per CSV (Wix).
- Check robots.txt. SEO & GEO > Tools and settings > Robots.txt Editor > View File. "Reset to Default" undoes mistakes (Wix). See Wix robots.txt.
- Rewrite product text you copied from the maker. Start with your top 20 sellers.
Free sample from the checklist
Here are 4 of the 85 rows, exactly as they appear in the sheet.
| Check | Where in Wix | How to fix | Priority | Can SEOmatic apply it? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Blog posts whose slug changed have a manual 301 | SEO & GEO > Tools and settings > URL Redirect Manager > New Redirect | List every post slug you changed. Redirect the old /post/old-slug to the new URL. | High | Yes |
| Product URL prefix is set the way you want | SEO Settings > Products > URL structure | Decide once. On a live store, tick the box to redirect old URLs, then test 5 old links. | Medium | No (you do this in Wix) |
| "Convert to custom markup" was not used where prices change | Page SEO panel > Advanced SEO > Structured data markup | Keep presets on product pages. A custom copy with typed-in values stops updating price and stock. | Medium | No (you do this in Wix) |
| Every product image has its own alt text | Products > product > Images and videos > More actions > Edit alt text | Describe each view. Avoid "Copy to all images". | Medium | Yes on Catalog V3 stores; older V1 stores: drafts it, you paste |
Wix SEO settings: where everything lives
Wix spreads SEO across three places. Knowing which one controls what saves most of the confusion.
- Site-wide SEO Settings (SEO & GEO > Tools and settings > SEO Settings). Patterns for each page type: title, meta description, indexing, social tags, URL structure for products and posts, preset structured data, and up to 10 extra meta or link tags.
- The page SEO panel (Editor: Pages & Menu > page > More actions > SEO basics). Per-page title, description, slug, index toggle, canonical, up to 5 JSON-LD markups, and social share.
- App dashboards for Stores, Blog, Bookings and Events. Each product, post or service has its own "Edit SEO Settings" with the same tabs (Wix).
Rule of thumb: set a sensible pattern for each page type once, then override it on the 10 to 30 pages that bring customers. The full map: Wix SEO settings.
Wix URL structure and prefixes
Wix pages live at /your-slug. Products default to /product-page/your-slug and blog posts to /post/your-slug.
- Products: you can change or remove the prefix for all products in SEO Settings > Products (Wix).
- Blog posts: you can rename
postbut not remove it, and it cannot match the blog feed prefix (Wix).
Should you change them? Only if the site is new, or you have redirects ready. The prefix is a small factor. A broken redirect after a prefix change is a big one. Step by step: Wix URL structure and Wix 301 redirects.
Wix structured data
Wix adds schema.org markup to product, blog post, event and booking pages for you, and LocalBusiness markup to the homepage once Business info is complete (Wix). You can add custom JSON-LD, up to 5 markups per page.
Two things to skip: Google retired the sitelinks search box in November 2024 (Google), and has shown FAQ rich results only for authoritative government and health sites since August 2023 (Google). More in Wix structured data.
Wix Stores, Blog, Velo and Multilingual
- Stores: unique descriptions, a custom SEO title per best seller, the Brand field filled, and a plan for out-of-stock items. Wix suggests 60 characters for product titles and 156 for descriptions.
- Blog: set the slug before you publish, because changing it later needs a manual redirect. See Wix blog SEO.
- Velo: set title and meta tags inside
onReady, which runs on the server for the first render. Tags set later may be missing from what Google reads (Wix Developers). - Multilingual: Wix adds hreflang and x-default tags for you. Translate the title, description and slug of each money page in every language (Wix).
Wix speed and Core Web Vitals
Open Analytics > Site Speed. Its "Real visitor experience" section uses Wix Analytics data, so it shows results with fewer visits than Google's tools (Wix). Google's "good" thresholds are LCP 2.5 seconds or less, INP 200 ms or less, and CLS 0.1 or less (web.dev). On Wix, the usual culprits are video backgrounds, slideshows, entrance animations and apps you no longer use.
Who this Wix SEO checklist is for
- Owners of Wix sites who want to know what to fix first, without learning SEO jargon.
- Freelancers and agencies who audit Wix sites and want a repeatable sheet to hand clients.
- Anyone moving a site to Wix who needs a redirect plan (site migration SEO checklist).

How to use this with an AI assistant
The checklist is plain enough for ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor to work through. With SEOmatic connected, the assistant can check your real site and Search Console data instead of guessing. Connect SEOmatic at https://seomatic.ai/mcp, then paste the prompt below. check_site works without signing in.
SEOmatic writes most title, description, redirect, blog and product fixes to Wix after you approve them, and drafts page body text for you to paste, since Wix has no API for it. Every change can be undone.
Updated October 2026. Works in any assistant that supports MCP (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and others).

check_site works without signing in. Everything that uses your Search Console data needs a free SEOmatic sign-in (connect_seomatic). Making changes on your Wix site needs the trial or a paid plan, and every change waits for your approval.
The prompt (copy and paste)
Use SEOmatic to run the Wix SEO checklist on mysite.com.
1. Run check_site on mysite.com and tell me the verdict: can Google index the homepage, robots.txt, canonical, redirects, and AI crawler access.
2. Connect SEOmatic with connect_seomatic so you can use my Search Console data. Then run get_started.
3. Run site_audit, and site_pages (action analyze) on my 10 most visited pages from gsc_performance (action top_pages, last 3 months).
4. Check indexing: gsc_insights (action sitemaps) for sitemap errors, and gsc_indexing (action batch_inspect) on my key pages.
5. Find click losses: gsc_insights (action ctr_outliers) for weak titles, and gsc_performance (action compare_periods) for pages that lost clicks.
6. Map the results to the Wix SEO checklist sections (SEO Settings, page SEO panel, content, images, URL structure, redirects, robots.txt and sitemaps, structured data, Wix Stores, Wix Blog, dynamic pages, multilingual, speed). For each failing item give: the page, what is wrong, the Wix menu path to fix it, and the priority.
7. For fixes SEOmatic can write on Wix (titles, meta descriptions, canonical, noindex and JSON-LD on static pages; blog posts; product name, description and SEO fields; CMS item fields; 301 redirects; robots.txt), stage them with task_manage (action create) and show them with show_approval_cards. For the rest (static page body text, site-wide SEO Settings patterns, URL prefixes, translations), give me the exact text to paste and where.
8. Do not apply anything until I approve it.Which SEOmatic tool covers which part of the checklist
| Checklist section | SEOmatic MCP tool (action) | What it returns |
|---|---|---|
| Domain, robots.txt, homepage indexing | check_site (no sign-in) | Verdict, top fixes, AI crawler access |
| Overview | get_started | Verdict and top 3 actions with numbers |
| Page SEO panel, content, images | site_audit; site_pages (analyze, crawl) | Duplicate or missing titles and descriptions, noindex leaks, canonicals pointing elsewhere, thin pages, broken internal links, missing alt text |
| Sitemaps and indexing | gsc_insights (sitemaps); gsc_indexing (inspect, batch_inspect) | Sitemap errors; index status per URL (50 per call) |
| Titles and click-through | gsc_insights (ctr_outliers); gsc_performance (query_pages) | Pages earning fewer clicks than their position should |
| Lost traffic, redirects | gsc_performance (compare_periods) | Pages and queries that lost clicks |
| Structured data | gsc_insights (search_appearance); site_pages (crawl) | Rich result performance; markup found on a page |
| Fixes | task_manage (create, decide, rollback, paste_done); show_approval_cards | Staged proposals you approve; undo; confirm a fix you pasted by hand |
What SEOmatic will not do on Wix
- Edit static page body text or headings (Wix has no API for it): it drafts the text, you paste it, then
task_manage(action paste_done) checks the live page. - Change site-wide SEO Settings patterns, URL prefixes, sitemap settings, Wix Multilingual translations or Velo code.
- Write product image alt text on older Wix Stores (Catalog V1): it drafts the text for you to paste.
- Edit your Google Business Profile.
