SEO is a monitoring job: rankings drift and chances show up on their own schedule. A Grok Bot with SEOmatic runs routines that read your real Search Console data every week, catch traffic drops, find keywords one step from page 1, and on paid plans stage fixes that wait for you.

SEOmatic is a hosted MCP server that your Grok Bot adds as a custom MCP server, or from Connect apps. The open-source SEOmatic template gives the Bot its instructions, an SEO audit skill and three scheduled routines.
October 2026
An x.ai Bot and a free SEOmatic account. The Bot signs in with OAuth; if it only accepts a token, create an API key in Settings, AI Agents, API Keys and store it as a Bot secret.
Free to connect, with 5 questions a month from your own data (plus 10 once you connect Search Console). Paid plans add agents that stage fixes for your approval. See pricing.
Endpoint, auth, every tool and what it costs: SEOmatic MCP server docs.
Every Monday at 09:00: last week against the week before, the pages and queries that moved, and what to do about them.
Every morning at 08:30: a quiet check that only messages you when a page or query drops enough to matter.
Every Thursday at 10:00: keywords sitting just off page 1 and the pages that could win them.
After a redesign or a batch of redirects, a daily check of which URLs Google still has, dropped or never picked up.
Ask the Bot for an audit any time and it runs the full audit, grounded in your Search Console data and ranked by impact.
On paid plans, the Bot stages the fixes it finds and tells you they are ready to approve in SEOmatic.
A chat assistant answers when you remember to ask. A Bot with routines asks for you. That is what Grok Bot does best with SEOmatic: the recurring checks nobody gets to, run on a schedule, reported only when there is something worth your time.
An example on the Acme Plumbing demo site. You ask Grok Bot:
“Run my weekly SEO review.”
Grok Bot calls SEOmatic:
gsc_performance: Oct 5 to Oct 11 (7 days) vs Sep 28 to Oct 4 (7 days)gsc_insights: drops and striking distanceGrok Bot answers:
Weekly review, Oct 5 to Oct 11 (7 days) against the 7 days before. Clicks: 1,018, down 4%.

Once SEOmatic is connected, try these in your Bot before you switch the routines on:
About two minutes for the SEOmatic connection, ten for the whole Bot with routines. The template lives at github.com/Minh42/seomatic-mcp/tree/main/grok-bot.
# Ask the Bot, or open Plugins, and add a custom MCP server:
# URL: https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp
# Transport: Streamable HTTP Auth: OAuth
# Token-only? Store an SEOmatic API key as a Bot secret
# and send it as: Authorization: Bearer smk_live_...
# Or, from Connect apps (sidebar; on mobile, your avatar):
# search SEOmatic, add it, then Authorize in your browserAdding several custom servers? Add SEOmatic first and confirm its tools load before you add the others: one stuck custom server can stop tool discovery for all of them. Full template: github.com/Minh42/seomatic-mcp/tree/main/grok-bot.
| Route | Best for | How |
|---|---|---|
| Custom MCP server | Every Bot, today. OAuth sign-in, or a token | Ask the Bot, or open Plugins, and add a custom server with URL https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp, Streamable HTTP, OAuth. Token-only: store an API key as a Bot secret and send it as a Bearer header. |
| Connect apps | Bots where SEOmatic shows in Connect apps | Or select Connect apps in the sidebar (on mobile, tap your avatar), search SEOmatic, add it, then Authorize in your browser. It shows under Installed. |
| Routine template | A complete SEO teammate: instructions, a skill and three routines | Follow github.com/Minh42/seomatic-mcp/tree/main/grok-bot, after connecting with one of the routes above. |
Start with the custom MCP server, then add the template's routines. It works in every Bot today, and Connect apps reaches the same SEOmatic server. The routines are what turn the Bot from something you ask into something that checks for you.
Grok Bot reads Google Search Console through SEOmatic, and the fixes you approve go live in your CMS. Pick your platform for the exact steps:
All three come from xAI. This page is about Grok Bot, the always-on cloud agents that run routines on a schedule and message you with results.
Grok Bot and Grok Build connect to the same SEOmatic server, so your workspace, free questions and approvals carry across.
Connecting is free, and so is the SEOmatic account behind it: no card. A free account answers 5 questions a month from your own data, plus 10 bonus questions once you connect Google Search Console. Each tool call counts as one question, so a big request can use a few.
Free covers the diagnosis: Search Console reports and insights, site audits of up to 30 pages, live page analysis, and your AI visibility results. Live market data, like keyword volumes, backlink profiles and competitor domains, is part of paid plans, with one free keyword preview per workspace.
Paid plans remove the question limit and add the treatment: agents stage fixes on your site (titles, descriptions, content updates, technical fixes, internal links) and run campaigns and fresh AI visibility scans. Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial. See pricing.
Routines draw on the same allowance as any other question. The weekly review fits a free account for a light start; the daily watch and the sweeps are what paid plans, with no question limit, are for.
A Bot that runs on a schedule is exactly where approval matters most, so it never gets to skip it. A staged change is a proposal: it says what will change and why, and nothing touches your site until you approve it. The assistant records your decision, and it is told never to approve anything on its own judgment. Approved fixes start within seconds, the page's previous state is stored, and any applied change can be rolled back. Changes that could take a page out of Google, like a noindex, need an extra explicit confirmation. The template's instructions also tell the Bot to report and stage, never to approve.

How do I connect SEOmatic to Grok Bot?
Ask your Bot, or open Plugins, to add a custom MCP server with the URL https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp, Streamable HTTP and OAuth, then finish the SEOmatic sign-in in your browser. Or select Connect apps, search SEOmatic and add it.
Can Grok do SEO?
Grok can reason about SEO, but without your data it guesses. A Grok Bot with SEOmatic connected reads your real Search Console data on a schedule, flags drops and quick wins, and on paid plans stages fixes for you to approve.
Where does the SEOmatic plugin come from?
Grok Bot installs plugins from the Cursor Marketplace, where SEOmatic is listed. The plugin connects the hosted SEOmatic server with OAuth, so there is no key to paste.
What if my Bot only accepts a token?
Create an API key in SEOmatic under Settings, AI Agents, API Keys, store it as a Bot secret, and send it as the header Authorization: Bearer followed by the key. Do not paste the key into a chat message.
Is it free?
Connecting and the SEOmatic account are free with no card. A free account answers 5 questions a month plus 10 bonus questions once you connect Search Console. Routines use the same allowance, so daily routines fit a paid plan, which has no question limit.
What routines does the template include?
Three: a weekly SEO review on Mondays at 09:00, a daily traffic-drop watch at 08:30, and a striking-distance sweep on Thursdays at 10:00. You can change the times to suit you.
Why do I have to connect SEOmatic again after installing the template?
Grok Bot templates copy the instructions, skills and routines, but not custom MCP servers or anyone's login. Each installer connects SEOmatic with their own account, which keeps every Bot on its owner's data.
The Bot says it has no SEOmatic tools. What should I check?
Ask the Bot which tools it has from SEOmatic. If none are listed, the sign-in did not finish: reconnect SEOmatic (the custom server, or the plugin under Installed) and finish the sign-in. If you added other custom servers at the same time, remove them, confirm SEOmatic loads, then add them back one at a time.
Will the Bot message me every day?
Only when something changed. The routines compare each run with the last one, and the daily drop watch stays quiet unless a page or query falls enough to matter.
Can it change my site without asking?
No. By default every change SEOmatic proposes waits for your approval before it touches your site, and your assistant is told never to approve on its own. Approved changes are stored with the page's previous state, so any edit to an existing page can be rolled back. If you later want low-risk fixes to go ahead on their own, you can turn that on in your autonomy settings; changes to your URLs or indexing, and new content, still wait for you.
Is Grok Bot the same as Grok Build?
No. Grok Bot runs in the cloud on a schedule and messages you. Grok Build is xAI's coding agent in your terminal, and it installs SEOmatic with grok plugin commands. Both reach the same SEOmatic workspace.
Same server, same tools, same approval rules. Pick the agent that fits the job.
