Agents read your Search Console data, do the work, and prove what actually moved. You decide what ships.
14-Day Free Trial. $1 today, credited to your first payment.
Grok Build can read your whole repo, but it cannot see how Google treats your site. Install the SEOmatic plugin and it can: real Search Console clicks and positions, index status, site audits and AI visibility, right next to the code that causes each problem. You review every change it makes.

SEOmatic is a hosted MCP server. The SEOmatic plugin for Grok Build bundles it with SEOmatic's SEO skills; you can also add the server alone with grok mcp add. It signs in with OAuth, or with a workspace API key where there is no browser.

Grok Build (install with curl -fsSL https://x.ai/cli/install.sh | bash) and a free SEOmatic account. For CI, create an API key in Settings, AI Agents, API Keys.
Free to connect. Search Console, audits and page checks have no limit; market data uses 5 free questions a month (plus a one-time 10 when you connect Search Console). Paid plans add agents that stage fixes for your approval. See pricing.
Endpoint, auth, every tool and what it costs: SEOmatic MCP server docs.
Find pages with high impressions and low CTR, then rewrite their titles and descriptions in the templates that set them.
Inspect up to 50 URLs in one call, read Google's reason for each, and trace it to the code: noindex, canonicals or redirects.
Crawl up to 30 pages of your staging or live site before a release and catch broken links, missing descriptions and thin pages.
Queries where a page ranks on page 2, with the sections the page is missing, so Grok Build can draft them for your review.
Run grok -p after each deploy with an API key, and stop the pipeline when a key page turns noindex.
For sites exported from builders like Lovable or Bolt, fix the SEO basics those exports often miss: titles, sitemaps and canonicals.
Many SEO problems start in code: a layout that sets the same title everywhere, a canonical that points at the wrong URL, a robots rule that hides a folder. Grok Build can fix those, and with SEOmatic it knows which ones are costing you clicks first.
An example on the Acme Plumbing demo site. You ask Grok Build:
“Why is /drain-cleaning-cost stuck on page 2? Fix what you can in the repo.”
Grok Build calls SEOmatic:
gsc_performance: /drain-cleaning-cost by query, Sep 10 to Oct 9 (30 days)site_pages: live title, canonical and headingsRead app/(services)/drain-cleaning-cost/page.tsxGrok Build answers:
Sep 10 to Oct 9 (30 days): average position 11.6, 2,640 impressions, 41 clicks. The top query is "drain cleaning cost" (1,180 impressions).
Two causes in the code:
page.tsx.The diff is ready for your review. After you deploy, I can re-check the live page.
Also try:
Grok Build has a headless mode: grok -p runs one prompt and exits, so a deploy script or CI job can ask it for an SEO check. Give the job an SEOmatic API key in the SEOMATIC_API_KEY environment variable and add the server with the Bearer header form. Grok expands ${SEOMATIC_API_KEY} in headers, so the key never sits in a config file.
A useful post-deploy prompt: “Audit the five most visited pages with SEOmatic and fail if any is noindex or has a canonical to another URL.” A key from a free workspace covers every read and audit tool.
Try these in a Grok Build session inside your project:
Grok Build reaches SEOmatic's tools through the connector, which is an MCP server. The ones you will use most:
Each tool says whether it is free or uses AI credits before Grok Build calls it, and key tools show interactive cards in the chat: connect buttons, scan progress and approval buttons. The full list, with every parameter, is in the SEO MCP server reference.
Two commands, then a one-time sign-in. About a minute, with no Google Cloud project to set up.
# Plugin: the SEOmatic skills plus the hosted server
grok plugin marketplace add Minh42/seomatic-mcp
grok plugin install seomatic --trust
# start grok and ask a question; sign in when the browser opens
# Or the server only:
grok mcp add --transport http seomatic https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp
# Headless, SSH or CI: use an API key from the environment
grok mcp add --transport http seomatic https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp \
--header "Authorization: Bearer ${SEOMATIC_API_KEY}"No browser over SSH or in CI? Create a key in SEOmatic under Settings, AI Agents, API Keys, export it as SEOMATIC_API_KEY, and add the server with the Bearer header form shown above.
| Route | Best for | How |
|---|---|---|
| SEOmatic plugin | Most people. Adds the SEO skills and the server together | grok plugin marketplace add Minh42/seomatic-mcp, then grok plugin install seomatic --trust. Or open /marketplace in the TUI. |
| grok mcp add | Only the server, or machines without a browser | grok mcp add --transport http seomatic https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp. Without a browser, add --header "Authorization: Bearer ${SEOMATIC_API_KEY}". |
| config.toml | Teams that ship MCP config with the repo | In ~/.grok/config.toml or the project's .grok/config.toml, add [mcp_servers.seomatic] with url = "https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp". |
Pick the plugin. It connects the same SEOmatic server as the other two and adds SEOmatic's skills, so Grok Build already knows the audit, striking-distance and weekly-brief workflows.
All three come from xAI. This page is about Grok Build, xAI's coding agent that runs in your terminal and works on your code.
Grok Build and Grok Bot connect to the same SEOmatic server, so your workspace, free questions and approvals carry across.
Connecting is free, and so is the SEOmatic account behind it: no card. Free covers the diagnosis with no limit: Search Console reports and insights, site audits of up to 30 pages, live page analysis, and your AI visibility results.
Live market data, like keyword volumes, backlink profiles and competitor domains, uses free questions: 5 a month, plus a one-time 10 bonus questions when you connect Google Search Console. One question covers up to 5 lookups.
Paid plans remove the question limit and add the treatment: agents stage fixes on your site (titles, descriptions, content updates, technical fixes, internal links) and run campaigns and fresh AI visibility scans. Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial. See pricing.
The plugin is free. A free SEOmatic workspace covers every read, audit and index check, which is all most code fixes need.
Grok Build edits your code; it never pushes changes to your live CMS on its own. A staged change is a proposal: it says what will change and why, and nothing touches your site until you approve it. The assistant records your decision, and it is told never to approve anything on its own judgment. Approved fixes start within seconds, the page's previous state is stored, and any applied change can be rolled back. Changes that could take a page out of Google, like a noindex, need an extra explicit confirmation. Code changes follow your normal review: nothing ships until you merge and deploy it.

How do I connect SEOmatic to Grok Build?
Run grok plugin marketplace add Minh42/seomatic-mcp, then grok plugin install seomatic --trust. Start grok, ask a question about your site, and sign in to SEOmatic in the browser window that opens. To add only the server, run grok mcp add --transport http seomatic https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp.
Can Grok Build do SEO?
On its own, Grok Build can read your code but not your Google data. With SEOmatic, it reads your real Search Console clicks and positions, checks index status, audits your site and checks AI visibility, then fixes the causes it finds in your code for you to review.
What does the plugin add compared with grok mcp add?
Both connect the same SEOmatic server. The plugin also installs SEOmatic's SEO skills, like the audit, striking-distance and weekly brief workflows, so Grok Build follows a tested process instead of improvising.
Is it free?
The plugin and the SEOmatic account are free with no card. Search Console reports, site audits and page checks are free with no limit. Live market data (keyword volumes, competitors, backlinks) uses free questions: 5 a month, plus a one-time 10 when you connect Search Console. Paid plans remove the limit and add agents that stage fixes in your CMS. Grok Build access itself comes from xAI.
Can I use it in CI or over SSH?
Yes. Create an SEOmatic API key, export it as SEOMATIC_API_KEY, and add the server with --header "Authorization: Bearer ${SEOMATIC_API_KEY}". Then run grok -p with your prompt in the job. Grok expands the variable, so the key stays out of your config file.
Grok Build does not see SEOmatic. What should I check?
Run grok inspect to see which plugins and MCP servers Grok Build found, and grok mcp doctor seomatic to test the connection. If the server needs sign-in, open /mcps in the TUI and press i on seomatic. If the plugin is missing, run the two install commands again.
Do I need a Google Cloud project or service account?
No. You connect Search Console to SEOmatic once with a normal Google sign-in. Grok Build reaches your data through SEOmatic, so there are no Google API credentials to create.
Are the numbers real?
Yes. They come from your own Search Console through SEOmatic, and every answer names the exact date range and number of days, so you can check them yourself.
Can it change my site without asking?
No. By default every change SEOmatic proposes waits for your approval before it touches your site, and your assistant is told never to approve on its own. Approved changes are stored with the page's previous state, so any edit to an existing page can be rolled back. If you later want low-risk fixes to go ahead on their own, you can turn that on in your autonomy settings; changes to your URLs or indexing, and new content, still wait for you.
Is Grok Build the same as Grok Bot?
No. Grok Build is xAI's coding agent in your terminal. Grok Bot is xAI's always-on cloud agent that runs routines and messages you. Both connect to the same SEOmatic workspace, so many people use Grok Bot for weekly checks and Grok Build to fix what it finds.
