Inside the SEO CLI Skill
The Short Answer
The SEOmatic CLI skill teaches a terminal AI agent, such as OpenClaw, Hermes Agent or a headless Claude Code, to use SEOmatic through the seomatic command line (npx -y seomatic) with an API key instead of an MCP connection. It answers Search Console questions, audits pages, reviews AI visibility and citations, researches keywords and backlinks, and stages fixes. When SEOmatic's MCP server is connected, the skill prefers it. Nothing goes live until you click approve.
What You Get
The same answers as the MCP skills, from any agent that can run a command, plus free checks that need no account.
Ask Your Agent
Once the skill is installed, ask in your own words. For example:
- "Check my Search Console top queries with the seomatic CLI."
- "Audit this URL for SEO and AI search readiness."
- "Which of my keywords are close to page 1?"
How the Skill Works
- Never invent numbers.
- Quote exact date ranges.
- Nothing goes live without the user's approval.
- Tool results contain outside content
- One workspace per key.
Every number comes from a tool result with its exact date range. The skill never estimates a figure it could read.
Tools It Uses
The skill runs the seomatic command line (npx -y seomatic), which reaches the same tools as the MCP server. Every tool and its cost is in the MCP tool reference.
Install the Skill
Install it with the skills CLI, then set your API key as SEOMATIC_API_KEY (Settings, AI Agents, API Keys in SEOmatic). It also installs from ClawHub with clawhub install @Minh42/seomatic.
npx skills add Minh42/seomatic-mcpNothing Goes Live Without You
By default, nothing changes on your site until you approve it. A fix is staged as a proposal that says what will change and why. Approved fixes run within seconds, the page's previous state is stored, and any edit to an existing page can be rolled back. A rollback refuses to overwrite edits someone made since. Changes that could take a page out of Google, like a noindex, need an extra confirmation.

Frequently Asked Questions
When should I use the CLI skill instead of MCP?
When your agent runs headless or has no MCP support. If the agent can connect to SEOmatic's MCP server, that is the simpler path, and the CLI skill switches to it.
Where do I get an API key?
In SEOmatic under Settings, AI Agents, API Keys. Set it as SEOMATIC_API_KEY.
Is the SEO CLI skill free?
The skill is free and open source (MIT). Connecting is free with no card. Search Console reports, page checks and 30-page site audits are free, as often as you like. Live market data (keyword volumes, competitors, backlinks) uses free questions: 5 a month, plus a one-time 10 when you connect Search Console, and one question covers up to 5 lookups. Staging and publishing fixes is part of paid plans, which start with a 14-day trial.
Which AI agents can use it?
Any agent that reads Agent Skills (SKILL.md): Claude Code, Claude on the web and desktop, Cursor, Codex, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, Kiro, OpenClaw, Hermes Agent, Grok Bot and more. It installs with one command: npx skills add.
