Requirements
A Ghost site running version 5.0 or higher, hosted on Ghost Pro or self-hosted. Administrator access required to create a custom integration and generate an Admin API Key.
How to Fix Ghost SEO from Codex
Step 1: Connect Ghost to SEOmatic
SEOmatic connects to your Ghost site through the Admin API, then goes to work on the posts and pages you already have.
Step 1: In Ghost, go to Settings > Integrations, add a custom integration and copy the Admin API Key.
Step 2: In SEOmatic, go to Connections and select Ghost. Enter your site URL and the key. SEOmatic validates it automatically. There is no collection or content type to pick, because Ghost does not need one.
Step 3: Agents read your Search Console data, find what is holding your posts back, and propose the fixes with the reasoning attached.
Step 4: You approve what you want. Approved work is written to your site, logged as a diff you can read, and undone in one click if you change your mind.
Step 2: Connect SEOmatic to Codex
Run these two commands in your terminal. The second one opens your browser: sign in to SEOmatic and pick your site. The CLI and the IDE extension share the same config, so this covers both.
codex mcp add seomatic --url https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp
codex mcp login seomaticOther ways to connect are on the Codex page.
Step 3: Ask Codex, Then Approve
Paste any of these. Codex answers from your data and stages the fix; you approve it before it reaches Ghost.
- “Which of my Ghost pages lost the most clicks this month, and why?”
- “Stage new titles for my Ghost pages with high impressions and low CTR.”
- “Find Ghost pages Google has not indexed and tell me what is blocking them.”
- “Audit my Ghost homepage and rank the fixes by impact.”
What Codex Can Change on Ghost
Full articles from research to finished draft, plus rewrites and content refreshes on posts already published.
Ghost has a real canonical field, so agents set it directly instead of handing you an instruction. They also know Ghost's sitemap quirk: self-referencing canonicals are deliberately left unset, because older Ghost versions drop any post with a set canonical from the sitemap.
JSON-LD written into your post head, and only the types Ghost does not already output. Ghost emits Article on every post, so the agents add FAQPage, HowTo, Product and similar instead, never a duplicate entity. It lands live, straight into the post.
The agent arrives switched off and starts in approval mode. It earns more rope only when you give it.
A before and after view with the reasoning attached, so you see what changed and why.
Any change rolls back to its exact previous value. Low-risk edits that cost you traffic revert on their own.
If you changed the post in Ghost since the agent last looked, the write is refused rather than overwriting you.
Tags created on the fly, authors from your Ghost users, and public, members-only or paid visibility per post.
Feature and inline images are uploaded into your Ghost media library rather than hotlinked, with alt text and captions.
Ghost gives you clean technical SEO out of the box and then stops. Nothing decides which posts are slipping, rewrites them, or links them to each other. That is the part agents take over, and Ghost's Admin API lets them reach well past titles and meta.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can Codex fix SEO on my Ghost site?
Yes, through SEOmatic. Codex reads your Google Search Console data, finds what is holding your Ghost pages back and stages the fix. SEOmatic connects to Ghost through the Admin API. Agents write new posts and pages, refresh the ones you already published, and reach canonical tags and structured data as well as titles and meta.
What can Codex change on Ghost?
Writes And Refreshes Posts: Full articles from research to finished draft, plus rewrites and content refreshes on posts already published. Native Canonical Tags: Ghost has a real canonical field, so agents set it directly instead of handing you an instruction. They also know Ghost's sitemap quirk: self-referencing canonicals are deliberately left unset, because older Ghost versions drop any post with a set canonical from the sitemap. Schema Markup: JSON-LD written into your post head, and only the types Ghost does not already output. Ghost emits Article on every post, so the agents add FAQPage, HowTo, Product and similar instead, never a duplicate entity. It lands live, straight into the post. Nothing Applies Without You: The agent arrives switched off and starts in approval mode. It earns more rope only when you give it. A Diff For Every Change: A before and after view with the reasoning attached, so you see what changed and why. One Click Revert: Any change rolls back to its exact previous value. Low-risk edits that cost you traffic revert on their own.
What do I need to connect Ghost?
A Ghost site running version 5.0 or higher, hosted on Ghost Pro or self-hosted. Administrator access required to create a custom integration and generate an Admin API Key.
What do I need on the Codex side?
Codex (the CLI, the IDE extension or the desktop app) signed in with your ChatGPT account, and a free SEOmatic account. No API key needed for the browser sign-in.
Will Codex publish to Ghost without asking?
No. By default every change SEOmatic proposes waits for your approval before it touches your site, and your assistant is told never to approve on its own. Approved changes are stored with the page's previous state, so any edit to an existing page can be rolled back. If you later want low-risk fixes to go ahead on their own, you can turn that on in your autonomy settings; changes to your URLs or indexing, and new content, still wait for you.
Is it free?
Connecting is free with no card: 5 questions a month from your own data, plus 10 once you connect Search Console, and site audits of up to 30 pages. Staging and publishing fixes is part of paid plans, which start with a 14-day free trial.
