About Squarespace in SEOmatic
SEOmatic connects to Squarespace through the Commerce API. Agents write new products and improve the descriptions and search listings of ones already in your store. Blog posts and regular pages are out of reach, because Squarespace publishes no API for them.

Requirements
A Squarespace site with store owner access and products in your store. Connecting with your Squarespace login works on any plan; the API-key fallback needs an Advanced plan. If your site is a blog or a brochure site with no commerce, there is nothing here for agents to work on.
How to Fix Squarespace SEO from Codex
Step 1: Connect Squarespace to SEOmatic
SEOmatic connects to your Squarespace store through the Commerce API, then works on the products you already have.
Step 1: In SEOmatic, go to Connections, select Squarespace and click Connect with Squarespace. You log in on Squarespace's own page and approve access to your products. That is the whole setup.
Step 2: Prefer keys? You can instead generate a Developer API Key with Products permissions in Squarespace settings and paste it. SEOmatic validates it as you type.
Step 3: Agents read your Search Console data, find the product pages losing clicks they should be winning, and propose rewrites with the reasoning attached.
Step 4: You approve what you want. Approved work is written to your store, logged as a diff you can read, and undone in one click if you change your mind.
Step 2: Connect SEOmatic to Codex
Run these two commands in your terminal. The second one opens your browser: sign in to SEOmatic and pick your site. The CLI and the IDE extension share the same config, so this covers both.
codex mcp add seomatic --url https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp
codex mcp login seomaticOther ways to connect are on the Codex page.
Step 3: Ask Codex, Then Approve
Paste any of these. Codex answers from your data and stages the fix; you approve it before it reaches Squarespace.
- “Which of my Squarespace pages lost the most clicks this month, and why?”
- “Stage new titles for my Squarespace pages with high impressions and low CTR.”
- “Find Squarespace pages Google has not indexed and tell me what is blocking them.”
- “Audit my Squarespace homepage and rank the fixes by impact.”
What Codex Can Change on Squarespace
Product names, descriptions, URL slugs and search listings, written new or rewritten on products already live.
Blogs and regular pages have no Squarespace API. Agents never propose work there, so you get no queue that cannot run.
The agent arrives switched off and starts in approval mode. It earns more rope only when you give it.
A before and after view with the reasoning attached, so you see what changed and why.
Any change rolls back to its previous value. Low-risk edits that cost you traffic revert on their own.
Changing a search listing sends only that, so your pricing, variants and images are never resent or disturbed.
Meta titles and descriptions are written to the same fields you see under a product's SEO panel in Squarespace.
Up to 100 images per product from URLs you provide, downloaded and hosted by Squarespace automatically.
Everything goes through the Commerce API, so your Squarespace design decides how it all looks.
Squarespace opens up its Commerce API and nothing else, so this integration is deliberately narrow. Within products it does real work, and outside them it does not pretend to.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can Codex fix SEO on my Squarespace site?
Yes, through SEOmatic. Codex reads your Google Search Console data, finds what is holding your Squarespace pages back and stages the fix. SEOmatic connects to Squarespace through the Commerce API. Agents write new products and improve the descriptions and search listings of ones already in your store. Blog posts and regular pages are out of reach, because Squarespace publishes no API for them.
What can Codex change on Squarespace?
Writes And Improves Products: Product names, descriptions, URL slugs and search listings, written new or rewritten on products already live. Products Only, Said Up Front: Blogs and regular pages have no Squarespace API. Agents never propose work there, so you get no queue that cannot run. Nothing Applies Without You: The agent arrives switched off and starts in approval mode. It earns more rope only when you give it. A Diff For Every Change: A before and after view with the reasoning attached, so you see what changed and why. One Click Revert: Any change rolls back to its previous value. Low-risk edits that cost you traffic revert on their own. Partial Edits Are Safe: Changing a search listing sends only that, so your pricing, variants and images are never resent or disturbed.
What do I need to connect Squarespace?
A Squarespace site with store owner access and products in your store. Connecting with your Squarespace login works on any plan; the API-key fallback needs an Advanced plan. If your site is a blog or a brochure site with no commerce, there is nothing here for agents to work on.
What do I need on the Codex side?
Codex (the CLI, the IDE extension or the desktop app) signed in with your ChatGPT account, and a free SEOmatic account. No API key needed for the browser sign-in.
Will Codex publish to Squarespace without asking?
No. By default every change SEOmatic proposes waits for your approval before it touches your site, and your assistant is told never to approve on its own. Approved changes are stored with the page's previous state, so any edit to an existing page can be rolled back. If you later want low-risk fixes to go ahead on their own, you can turn that on in your autonomy settings; changes to your URLs or indexing, and new content, still wait for you.
Is it free?
Connecting is free with no card: 5 questions a month from your own data, plus 10 once you connect Search Console, and site audits of up to 30 pages. Staging and publishing fixes is part of paid plans, which start with a 14-day free trial.
