Agents read your Search Console data, do the work, and prove what actually moved. You decide what ships.
14-Day Trial for $1, credited to your first payment.
Hermes Agent has a built-in MCP client, so SEOmatic plugs in with one command and a browser sign-in. From the terminal, Telegram or Discord, Hermes can then read your Google Search Console, audit pages, check how AI answers describe you, and on paid plans stage fixes that wait for your approval.

SEOmatic is a hosted MCP server that Hermes Agent adds under mcp_servers. Hermes signs in with OAuth (dynamic client registration is automatic) or an API key, and then calls SEOmatic's SEO tools on one workspace.
November 2026
Hermes Agent installed and set up, and a free SEOmatic account. For a server with no browser, create an API key in Settings, AI Agents, API Keys.
Free to connect. Search Console, audits and page checks have no limit; market data uses 5 free questions a month (plus a one-time 10 when you connect Search Console). Paid plans add agents that stage fixes for your approval. See pricing.
Endpoint, auth, every tool and what it costs: SEOmatic MCP server docs.
A scheduled job that compares the week with the one before and posts the result to your Telegram or Discord.
Which AI assistants name you for the questions your customers ask, what they cite, and which competitors they prefer.
The pages and queries behind a drop, whether it is seasonal, and the most likely cause for each page.
Hermes inspects a list of URLs in Search Console and reports which ones Google skipped, and why.
Queries that already bring impressions but have no page that answers them well, ready to turn into briefs.
On paid plans, Hermes stages new titles, descriptions, content updates and internal links for you to approve.
Hermes Agent is built to keep going: it runs from a terminal, answers in chat apps and can repeat a job on a schedule. Those three traits suit SEO work that is mostly checking, comparing and following up.
An example on the Acme Plumbing demo site. You ask Hermes Agent:
“Do AI assistants recommend us for emergency plumber searches?”
Hermes Agent calls SEOmatic:
mcp__seomatic__ai_citations: latest scan, Oct 6mcp__seomatic__gsc_performance: /emergency-plumber, Sep 12 to Oct 9 (28 days)Hermes Agent answers:
Partly. In your Oct 6 scan, AI answers named Acme Plumbing in 3 of 8 emergency-plumber prompts:
On Google, /emergency-plumber had 1,840 impressions and 52 clicks from Sep 12 to Oct 9 (28 days). The page has no response time and no service area list, which the competitors both show.
Want me to stage a content update for that page? In Approval mode, nothing changes until you approve it.
Also try:
Hermes treats every MCP server the same way: it lists the tools at startup and calls them by name. With SEOmatic connected, you will see tools such as mcp__seomatic__gsc_performance, mcp__seomatic__gsc_insights, mcp__seomatic__gsc_indexing, mcp__seomatic__site_pages and mcp__seomatic__ai_citations.
A few habits make the answers better:
Try these in Hermes, from the CLI or any chat channel you connected:
Every tool, with its parameters and cost, is in the SEO MCP server reference.
Setup takes about a minute on a machine with a browser. On a headless server, use the device-code login or the API-key lines in the code block.
# OAuth (opens your browser once)
hermes mcp add seomatic --url https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp --auth oauth
hermes mcp test seomatic
# Or in ~/.hermes/config.yaml (then restart Hermes or run /reload-mcp)
mcp_servers:
seomatic:
url: "https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp"
auth: oauth
# No browser on this machine? Sign in with a code from another device
hermes mcp login seomatic --flow device
# Or use an API key instead of OAuth (Hermes asks for it and saves it to ~/.hermes/.env)
hermes mcp add seomatic --url https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp --auth header
# The same API key setup by hand: put SEOMATIC_API_KEY in ~/.hermes/.env
mcp_servers:
seomatic:
url: "https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp"
headers:
Authorization: "Bearer ${SEOMATIC_API_KEY}"Hermes names the tools mcp__seomatic__<tool>, for example mcp__seomatic__gsc_performance. If hermes mcp test seomatic fails on a server, the browser sign-in had nowhere to open: run hermes mcp login seomatic --flow device and enter the code on any device with a browser, or switch to the API-key config and set SEOMATIC_API_KEY where Hermes runs. After editing config.yaml by hand, restart Hermes or run /reload-mcp. If the tools were there and then vanish mid-session, or Hermes answers without calling them, run hermes mcp test seomatic, then /reload-mcp; if that does not bring them back, restart Hermes (or its gateway). A tool you left out at the enable-all prompt stays off until you run hermes mcp configure seomatic.
| Route | Best for | How |
|---|---|---|
| MCP server with OAuth | Most people, on a laptop or any machine with a browser | hermes mcp add seomatic --url https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp --auth oauth, or add seomatic: { url, auth: oauth } under mcp_servers in ~/.hermes/config.yaml. No browser on that machine? hermes mcp login seomatic --flow device signs in with a code from another device. |
| MCP server with an API key | Headless servers and Docker setups where no browser can open | hermes mcp add seomatic --url https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp --auth header asks for the key and saves it to ~/.hermes/.env. Or add headers: { Authorization: "Bearer ${SEOMATIC_API_KEY}" } to the seomatic entry in config.yaml and put SEOMATIC_API_KEY in ~/.hermes/.env or the environment Hermes runs in. |
| SEOmatic skill | People who want Hermes to run SEO checks through a CLI in its terminal tool | npx skills add Minh42/seomatic-mcp -a hermes-agent -g installs into ~/.hermes/skills (without -g it lands in .hermes/skills of the folder you run it from). Put SEOMATIC_API_KEY in ~/.hermes/.env, then check with hermes skills list. |
Pick MCP with OAuth. Hermes handles the sign-in itself, every SEOmatic tool shows up as mcp__seomatic__<tool>, and there is no key to store. Use the API-key line on a server with no browser.
Hermes Agent reads Google Search Console through SEOmatic, and the fixes you approve go live in your CMS. Pick your platform for the exact steps:
This page is about Hermes Agent, the open-source agent from Nous Research that runs in your terminal and in chat apps, with its own MCP client, skills and scheduled jobs.
Whichever model Hermes Agent runs on, the SEOmatic connection is the same.
Connecting is free, and so is the SEOmatic account behind it: no card. Free covers the diagnosis with no limit: Search Console reports and insights, site audits of up to 30 pages, live page analysis, and your AI visibility results.
Live market data, like keyword volumes, backlink profiles and competitor domains, uses free questions: 5 a month, plus a one-time 10 bonus questions when you connect Google Search Console. One question covers up to 5 lookups.
Paid plans remove the question limit and add the treatment: agents stage fixes on your site (titles, descriptions, content updates, technical fixes, internal links) and run campaigns and fresh AI visibility scans. Every paid plan starts with a 14-Day Trial for $1, credited to your first payment. See pricing.
Hermes can chain several tools for one question, and each call counts. A scheduled weekly recap usually takes two or three calls, so it is best on a paid plan.
Hermes Agent can run on its own schedule and answer from chat apps, so SEOmatic draws a hard line: Hermes can stage changes, never approve them. A staged change is a proposal: it says what will change and why, and in Approval mode nothing touches your site until you approve it. The assistant records your decision, and it is told never to approve anything on its own judgment. Approved fixes start within seconds, the page's previous state is stored, and any applied change can be rolled back. Changes that could take a page out of Google, like a noindex, need an extra explicit confirmation. If you share a Hermes channel with other people, they can ask questions, but approving a change still takes a signed-in SEOmatic user.

How do I connect SEOmatic to Hermes Agent?
Run hermes mcp add seomatic --url https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp --auth oauth. Hermes opens your browser, you sign in to SEOmatic and pick your site. Then run hermes mcp test seomatic to check the tools load, and ask Hermes a question about your site.
Do I need an API key for Hermes Agent?
Not on a machine with a browser. Hermes uses OAuth with automatic client registration, so you sign in once and Hermes stores the token. On a headless server, run hermes mcp login seomatic --flow device and finish the sign-in with a code on another device, or create an API key in SEOmatic and send it as an Authorization header from config.yaml.
What do the SEOmatic tools look like in Hermes?
Hermes prefixes MCP tools with the server name, so they appear as mcp__seomatic__gsc_performance, mcp__seomatic__site_pages, mcp__seomatic__ai_citations and so on. You do not need to call them by name; ask in plain language and Hermes picks the right ones.
Can Hermes Agent send me SEO reports on Telegram?
Yes. If Hermes is connected to Telegram, Discord or another chat app, ask it to run a Search Console recap on a schedule and post the result there. Ask it to message you only when something changed, so the reports stay short.
Does it matter which model Hermes Agent runs on?
Not for the connection. SEOmatic does the data work and returns the same results whatever model Hermes uses. A stronger model writes better explanations and picks tools more reliably.
Are the numbers from my real Search Console?
Yes. SEOmatic reads your connected Google Search Console and returns exact date ranges, for example Sep 12 to Oct 9, 28 days. Hermes is told to state only numbers that came from a tool result.
Is SEOmatic for Hermes Agent free?
Yes. Connecting and the SEOmatic account are free, with no card. Search Console reports, site audits and page checks are free with no limit. Live market data (keyword volumes, competitors, backlinks) uses free questions: 5 a month, plus a one-time 10 when you connect Search Console. Paid plans remove the limit and add agents that stage fixes, with a 14-Day Trial for $1, credited to your first payment.
Can it change my site without asking?
No. By default every change SEOmatic proposes waits for your approval before it touches your site, and your assistant is told never to approve on its own. Approved changes are stored with the page's previous state, so any edit to an existing page can be rolled back. If you later want low-risk fixes to go ahead on their own, you can turn that on in your autonomy settings; changes to your URLs or indexing, and new content, still wait for you.
hermes mcp test seomatic fails. What now?
On a server with no browser, the OAuth sign-in cannot open. Run hermes mcp login seomatic --flow device and enter the code on any device with a browser, or replace auth: oauth with an Authorization header that reads SEOMATIC_API_KEY, set that variable where Hermes runs, and test again. On a laptop, rerun hermes mcp add and finish the sign-in in the browser tab it opens.
Hermes lists SEOmatic's tools but never uses them. What now?
Run hermes mcp test seomatic to check the server is connected, then /reload-mcp in the chat. A long-running Hermes process can drop an HTTP server's tools after a network blip, and a restart of Hermes (or its gateway) brings them back. If only some tools are missing, run hermes mcp configure seomatic and turn them on. Then ask again and name SEOmatic in the question.
Is this better than giving Hermes a Search Console API key?
It is less setup and more useful. A raw Search Console connection needs a Google Cloud project and returns rows. SEOmatic connects Search Console with a normal Google sign-in and adds comparisons, indexing reasons, audits, AI visibility and fixes you can approve.
Same server, same tools, same approval rules. Pick the agent that fits the job.
