Requirements
Google Chrome 116 or later. The panel works with no account. Highlighting your own site and tracking over time need a free SEOmatic account with your site connected. It asks for access to google.com/search and app.seomatic.ai only.

How It Works
Step 1: Add the extension to Chrome.
Step 2: Search on google.com as usual. When the results include an AI Overview, a panel lists every source it cites, in order.
Step 3 (optional): Connect a free SEOmatic account, and the panel highlights your site whenever it is one of them. Switch tracking on too, and from then on, each time you see an AI Overview, whether your own site was cited and at what rank is added to your workspace, so you can watch it change over time.

Do I need an account?
No. The panel works on any google.com search with an AI Overview from the moment you install it. A free SEOmatic account is only needed to highlight your own site in it and track your citations over time.
Does it run searches for me?
No. It reads only the results pages you open yourself and never queries Google in the background.
Is the list of competitors sent anywhere?
No. The cited sources are shown to you in the panel and stay in your browser. The only thing that ever leaves, and only once you connect and turn tracking on, is whether your own site was cited and at what rank.
What if a search has no AI Overview?
Then there is nothing to inspect, and the panel does not appear. Google decides per search whether to show an AI Overview.
