Use Google Search Console to find real demand for a page set
Short answer: Google Search Console is free and shows the searches your site already appears for. The best page set ideas are patterns you already get impressions for without a page built for them, often sitting in position 20 or lower.
Keyword tools estimate what people might search. Google Search Console shows what people did search before they saw your site. For programmatic SEO that is the best data there is, and it is free.
Here is why it matters. The strongest page set is a pattern Google already shows your site for, without a page built for it. Google is showing a weak page, often in position 20 or lower. A page made for the search gives Google a better answer to show.
Example: what that looks like in Search Console
emergency plumber lyon 3: 140 impressions, position 24
emergency plumber villeurbanne: 95 impressions, position 31
emergency plumber caluire: 60 impressions, position 38
One pattern, many places, no page for any of them. That is a page set with proven demand.
Never set it up?
Go to Google Search Console, add a Domain property, and add the TXT record it gives you at your domain registrar. It takes about 10 minutes. If the property is brand new, give it a few days before lesson 4.
Your 10-minute task: Export your query list
- Open Search Console and pick your site.
- Go to Performance, then Search results. Set the dates to the last 3 months.
- Open the Queries tab and sort by impressions.
- Click Export and save the sheet. Lessons 4, 5 and 8 use it.
- No property yet? Use the 10 minutes to verify one.
