Does SEOmatic set up the redirect for me?

It writes it, you apply it. Redirects live in your server config, your CDN or a plugin, and SEOmatic does not have access to any of those. What you get is a decided, copy-ready rule for the platform you run, which is the part that actually takes judgment.

How do I know the destination is the right one?

The destination can only be a page that is genuinely live on your site, never an invented URL, and you see the reasoning next to it. A rule pointing off your domain is refused outright, and so is one that would point a page at itself.

What about redirects piling up over the years?

That is exactly what the checks are for. When a destination already redirects somewhere else, SEOmatic points the new rule straight at the final page instead, so the value moves in one hop. If a rule would send two pages in a circle, it refuses to write it and tells you which page has to survive.

I am not technical. Can I still use this?

Yes, because the rule arrives finished. On WordPress it is one line to enter in the Redirection plugin, with no code. On other hosts you copy the block for your server and hand it over, which is a two-minute request rather than an SEO project.

Could it redirect a lot of pages at once by mistake?

Redirects are blocked from every bulk run by design, alongside noindex and canonicals, because one blind instruction across hundreds of pages is how sites disappear from Google. They stay one page at a time, each with a human decision attached.
