About Contentful in SEOmatic
SEOmatic connects to your Contentful space with a CMA token. Agents write new entries and improve existing ones, merging changes into the fields already there rather than replacing the entry wholesale.

Requirements
A Contentful space and a Content Management API token with write access, generated under Settings > CMA tokens. You will also need your Space ID and the environment name, usually master.
How to Fix Contentful SEO from Cursor
Step 1: Connect Contentful to SEOmatic
SEOmatic connects to your Contentful space through the Content Management API, then works on the entries you already have.
Step 1: In Contentful, go to Settings, then CMA tokens, and generate a personal token with write access.
Step 2: In SEOmatic, go to Connections and select Contentful. Paste the token along with your Space ID and environment, then pick the content type to work in.
Step 3: Agents read your Search Console data, find what is holding those entries back, and propose the changes with the reasoning attached.
Step 4: You approve what you want. The entry is updated and published as two steps, and if the publish half fails you are told the entry is sitting as a draft rather than being told it shipped.
Step 2: Connect SEOmatic to Cursor
Add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json for every project, or .cursor/mcp.json in one repo, or add the same URL in Settings, Tools & MCP. Approve the SEOmatic sign-in in your browser and pick your site. Or install SEOmatic from the Cursor Marketplace by typing /add-plugin seomatic in Agent chat.

}Other ways to connect are on the Cursor page.
Step 3: Ask Cursor, Then Approve
Paste any of these. Cursor answers from your data and stages the fix; you approve it before it reaches Contentful.
- “Which of my Contentful pages lost the most clicks this month, and why?”
- “Stage new titles for my Contentful pages with high impressions and low CTR.”
- “Find Contentful pages Google has not indexed and tell me what is blocking them.”
- “Audit my Contentful homepage and rank the fixes by impact.”
What Cursor Can Change on Contentful
New entries written from research, plus title, slug and meta fixes on ones already published. A body rewrite on a published entry comes to you as text to paste.
Contentful overwrites an entry's fields on write. Agents read it first and merge, so unsent fields survive untouched.
If your model calls it seoTitle rather than metaTitle, the change is written where your template actually reads it.
The agent arrives switched off and starts in approval mode. It earns more rope only when you give it.
SEOmatic reads the entry back from Contentful, so the before and after you approve is the real stored content.
Any change rolls back to its previous value. Low-risk edits that cost you traffic revert on their own.
Edits are written into your space's default locale field by field, leaving other locales of that field intact.
Saving and publishing are separate calls in Contentful. If the publish fails you are told it is still a draft.
Every write carries the version it was based on, so a colleague editing the same entry is never silently overwritten.
Contentful replaces an entry's fields wholesale on write, which is how integrations quietly delete the parts they were not editing. Agents read the entry first and merge into it, so a meta change stays a meta change.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can Cursor fix SEO on my Contentful site?
Yes, through SEOmatic. Cursor reads your Google Search Console data, finds what is holding your Contentful pages back and stages the fix. SEOmatic connects to your Contentful space with a CMA token. Agents write new entries and improve existing ones, merging changes into the fields already there rather than replacing the entry wholesale.
What can Cursor change on Contentful?
Writes And Improves Entries: New entries written from research, plus title, slug and meta fixes on ones already published. A body rewrite on a published entry comes to you as text to paste. Merges, Never Replaces: Contentful overwrites an entry's fields on write. Agents read it first and merge, so unsent fields survive untouched. Finds Your Real Field Names: If your model calls it seoTitle rather than metaTitle, the change is written where your template actually reads it. Nothing Applies Without You: The agent arrives switched off and starts in approval mode. It earns more rope only when you give it. A Diff For Every Change: SEOmatic reads the entry back from Contentful, so the before and after you approve is the real stored content. One Click Revert: Any change rolls back to its previous value. Low-risk edits that cost you traffic revert on their own.
What do I need to connect Contentful?
A Contentful space and a Content Management API token with write access, generated under Settings CMA tokens. You will also need your Space ID and the environment name, usually master.
What do I need on the Cursor side?
Cursor and a free SEOmatic account, which you can create during sign-in. Use OAuth, not an API key: Cursor does not send a configured Authorization header.
Will Cursor publish to Contentful without asking?
No. By default every change SEOmatic proposes waits for your approval before it touches your site, and your assistant is told never to approve on its own. Approved changes are stored with the page's previous state, so any edit to an existing page can be rolled back. If you later want low-risk fixes to go ahead on their own, you can turn that on in your autonomy settings; changes to your URLs or indexing, and new content, still wait for you.
Is it free?
Connecting is free with no card: 5 questions a month from your own data, plus 10 once you connect Search Console, and site audits of up to 30 pages. Staging and publishing fixes is part of paid plans, which start with a 14-day free trial.
