"insurance agency near me" gets 27,100 US searches a month, and the agencies Google shows first get the quote requests. The biggest insurance searches go to national carriers and comparison sites, so a local agency wins on "near me" and city searches: a complete Google Business Profile, a page for each line you write, reviews, and pages that show the states you are licensed in.
This guide covers the parts that bring quote requests, in the order worth doing them. For the full list of local checks, use the free local SEO checklist.
The Searches That Bring Clients
People looking for an agency search for the product with "near me", or for an agent directly. US searches a month, from Google Ads data:
| Search | US searches a month | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| car insurance near me | 74,000 | Auto is the line people most often want a local office for |
| insurance agency near me | 27,100 | The Google Maps results decide who gets the call |
| insurance agent near me | 27,100 | Same intent, and a reason to keep agent profiles complete |
| umbrella insurance | 27,100 | No "near me": people want it explained first |
| home insurance near me | 18,100 | Give home its own page, apart from auto |
| independent insurance agent near me | 9,900 | If you quote several carriers, say so plainly |
| health insurance near me | 8,100 | Only worth a page if you are licensed for health |
| life insurance near me | 6,600 | A separate page with who it suits and how a quote works |
| business insurance near me | 6,600 | Owners want an agent who knows their trade |
| commercial insurance near me | 2,900 | Same need, different words: one page can answer both |
Be honest about the biggest searches. "renters insurance" (368,000), "cheap car insurance" (301,000) and "auto insurance quotes" (246,000) are mostly national searches, and the first results usually belong to carriers and comparison sites with national budgets. A local agency rarely wins them. The searches you can win end in "near me" or a city name, so Google Maps and your local pages decide most of it.
Some lines swing a lot over the year. Over the last 12 months, "home insurance near me" ranged from about 5,400 to 90,500 US searches a month, "life insurance near me" from 2,400 to 27,100, and "business insurance near me" from 1,900 to 33,100. Have the page live before the busy months, not after.
Start With Your Google Business Profile
For "near me" searches, Google shows a map with three businesses above the regular results. Google says local results are "mainly based on relevance, distance, and popularity" (Google Business Profile help). You cannot change distance. You can change the other two:
- Primary category: Insurance agency. Add secondary categories only for lines you really write.
- Agent profiles: Google lists insurance agents among the practitioners who can have their own profile. If you are the only agent at an office and represent one carrier brand, Google says to share one profile named like "Allstate: Joe Miller" (Google guidelines).
- Services: list each line (auto, home, renters, umbrella, life, health, business) with a short description.
- Address and hours: your real office, where clients can walk in, with hours you keep.
- Photos: your office, sign and team, so people know they will meet a real person.
- Reviews: ask after a policy is bound or a claim is settled, and reply to every review.
Step by step: the Google Business Profile checklist and how to get more Google reviews.
Build a Page for Each Service
One page per line people search: auto, home, renters, umbrella, life, health or Medicare if you are licensed for it, and business insurance (general liability, commercial auto, workers comp) if you write it. Each page should answer what a person asks before calling:
- Who needs this coverage and what it covers, in plain words.
- What makes the premium go up or down, without promising a price.
- Which carriers you can quote for this line.
- How bundling works with the other lines you write.
- How a quote works, what to have ready, and how long it takes.
- How you help when a client files a claim.
Give each page a title that matches the search, like "Home Insurance in Tulsa: Quotes From Several Carriers | Redbud Insurance Group", and a first paragraph that answers the question in two sentences.
What SEOmatic's AI SEO agents do here: they find the service pages that show in Google but lose the click, then rewrite titles, headings and answers from your own Search Console data. You decide what goes live, and any change can be undone in one click.
City Pages Without Thin Copies
A page for each city you really serve helps you show for "insurance agent [city]" searches. Swapping the city name in one template does not: Google's spam policies call pages created to rank for similar searches that are less useful than the destination "doorway abuse" (Google). A city page earns its place with what is true only there:
| Thin city page | Useful city page |
|---|---|
| Same text with the city name swapped | The office or agent who serves that city |
| No local detail | Local risks that shape coverage, like hail, flood zones or wildfire, where true |
| Generic reviews | Reviews from clients in that city |
| Lists every product | The lines people there buy most from you |
Only build pages for places in states where you hold a license. Start with the 3 to 5 cities that bring most of your clients. More on doing it at scale: location pages that rank.
What SEOmatic's AI SEO agents do here: they check each town on the real results page, then draft pages for the places you serve from your best page. Pages too similar to each other are held back, not published.
Open Enrollment and Renewal Seasons
If you write health or Medicare plans, part of your year runs on fixed dates. Medicare Open Enrollment runs October 15 to December 7 (Medicare.gov). Marketplace Open Enrollment for 2027 coverage runs November 1 to January 15 (HealthCare.gov). Check both pages each year, since dates can change. "health insurance near me" ranged from about 6,600 to 12,100 US searches a month over the last year. Get ready before the window opens:
- Keep a page for each program you sell live all year, with the current dates and how to book a review.
- Update it before the window opens, not during it.
- Post on your Google Business Profile when enrollment opens, with your hours and how to book.
- For other lines, add a short renewal checklist to each page: what to review and when to call you.
Licenses, Carriers and Reviews
Insurance is licensed state by state: "State insurance regulators license producers and issue rules for continuing education requirements as well as sales and marketing of insurance products" (NAIC). Rules differ by state, so keep it simple on your site: list the states and lines you are licensed for, your license numbers where your state asks for them, and only the carriers you are appointed with. Have marketing pages checked against your state's rules and your carriers' rules before they go live.
Reviews have federal rules too. The FTC bans fake reviews and paying for reviews that express a particular sentiment, positive or negative (FTC). Ask every client, not only the happy ones. Use the same name, address and phone on every listing (your carriers' find-an-agent pages, BBB, Yelp and the rest): see the local citation sites that matter and NAP consistency.
Add InsuranceAgency Schema
Schema.org has a type for this trade: InsuranceAgency, a kind of financial service and local business. Add it to your homepage or contact page so search engines read your name, address, phone and hours without guessing. Keep it matching what the page shows (Google, local business structured data). Example for a made-up agency:
<script type="application/ld+json">
{
"@context": "https://schema.org",
"@type": "InsuranceAgency",
"name": "Redbud Insurance Group",
"url": "https://redbudinsurance.example",
"telephone": "+1-918-555-0162",
"address": {
"@type": "PostalAddress",
"streetAddress": "4200 S Harvard Ave",
"addressLocality": "Tulsa",
"addressRegion": "OK",
"postalCode": "74135",
"addressCountry": "US"
},
"areaServed": ["Tulsa", "Broken Arrow", "Jenks", "Owasso"],
"openingHours": "Mo-Fr 08:30-17:30",
"sameAs": ["https://www.facebook.com/redbudinsurance.example"]
}

SEO or Buying Insurance Leads?
| Item | SEO | Bought leads |
|---|---|---|
| Who else gets the lead | No one: the person contacts you | Often sold to several agents |
| How ready they are | They searched for a local agent | They filled in a form, often on a comparison site |
| Cost over time | Mostly time and upkeep; pages keep working | You pay for every lead, every month |
| What you own | Your site, profile and reviews | Nothing once you stop paying |
Many agencies do both: bought leads for this month's quotes, SEO so next year depends less on them.
What Insurance Agency SEO Costs
The basics cost time, not money: your Business Profile, reviews and a page per line. Agencies charge monthly retainers that vary widely. Before you sign, ask four questions: which pages and listings they will change each month, how they will show you calls and quote requests from Google, who owns the website and the Business Profile, and how long the contract runs. Also ask who checks the copy against your state's rules and your carriers' rules.
A 30-Day Insurance Agency SEO Plan

- Week 4: add the states and lines you are licensed for, add InsuranceAgency schema, and connect Google Search Console to see which searches already find you.
Let the AI SEO Agents Do the Work
Built for insurance agencies whose site already brings quote requests from Google. SEOmatic's AI SEO agents read your own Search Console data and make these changes on your site, in your CMS:
- Check every line and city: are you in the Google Maps top 3, where do you rank below it, and who is there instead
- Draft a page for each city you serve from your best page, with your real work and reviews from each place
- Rewrite line page titles and text for the searches that bring quote requests, and add local business schema
Each change can wait for your approval, one click undoes it, and the agents check it against how the rest of your site did. What they can change depends on your platform, and you see the full list before anything runs.
