An AI SEO assistant lets you ask questions about your own search data in plain language and get prioritized answers back. The category test was strict: the chat must run on YOUR data, not general knowledge, so generic chatbots and content writers with a chat box did not make it. What separates the four that did is what happens after the answer: whether anyone executes, whether anything is measured, and what the conversation itself costs you.
Four assistants that genuinely chat over your own search data, compared on the capabilities that decide what the conversation is worth: execution, control, proof, and price of asking.
Chat Grounded in Your Search Data
The conversation runs on your Search Console reality, not general SEO knowledge.
Executes the Fix After the Answer
The assistant can ship the change it just recommended, on the site you already have.
Approval Workflow & One-Click Rollback
Changes wait for your sign-off, and any change can be undone with its previous version stored.
Holdout Testing & Proof Reports
Advice is measured against pages left untouched on purpose, so you know what it earned.
Unmetered Questions
Asking is free thinking, not the billing meter.
MCP Access for Your Own Agents
Claude, Cursor or your own agents can use the tool directly.

SEOmatic's chat surface is called ChatSEO too, and the name collision with the tool below is the honest place to start: both let you ask questions about your Search Console data in plain language. The difference is what stands behind the conversation. Ask SEOmatic why a page is slipping and the same system that answers can fix it: agents execute 40 task types across 14 CMS platforms, every change waits for your approval, money pages are locked in code, and any edit rolls back in one click.
Then the part no assistant on this list attempts: measurement. Every task is verified against matched pages left deliberately untouched, wins and losses both reported, and the plan is rewritten weekly against those results. Your questions are never the meter; the agent work is. For your own AI agents, SEOmatic's MCP insight lane is free to start, the only vendor MCP on this list not gated behind a paid tier.
The honest caveat is the same one we print in every roundup: SEOmatic has no third-party review corpus yet, so the quote below is a customer's words rather than a review-platform excerpt. Plans run $99, $249 and $699 a month with a 14-day trial.

What You'd Get From Working With SEOmatic
The only assistant here whose chat can hand work to agents that execute across 14 CMS platforms
Holdout Testing measures what the advice actually earned, losses included
Free-to-start MCP insight lane, so your own agents can use it before you pay

ChatSEO (chatseo.app) is the purest expression of the category: connect Google Search Console, ask questions, and 12 topic agents (keywords, on-page, internal linking, structured data, local SEO, a GEO lane and more) answer with prioritized recommendations. For a founder staring at Search Console with no idea what matters, it is a genuinely good teacher, and selected fixes can be applied to WordPress and Webflow with a per-fix approve in chat.
Two structural limits define it. First, the meter: one credit per message sent, 100 a month on the €29 Starter, so the real price tracks how curious your month is, and the MCP server plus API require the €49 Pro plan. Second, the loop is open: execution covers two CMS platforms, nothing measures whether the advice worked against untouched pages, and there is no rollback or protected-page rail.
It is also young: France-built, 11 Trustpilot reviews (all five-star, TrustScore 4.4), and even friendly third-party write-ups flag the shortage of independent long-term case studies. A promising tool to learn with; a thin record to bet a client retainer on.
“Very impressive... amazing in-depth results when connected with Search Console and Analytics.”

Semrush Copilot is the incumbent's answer: an AI assistant layered on the Semrush suite that reads your projects across Site Audit, Position Tracking, Backlink Analytics, Organic Research and the gap tools, then surfaces personalized recommendations and alerts. It is included with every Semrush subscription at no extra cost, which makes the decision easy for existing customers: if you already pay from $139.95 a month, Copilot is free value on top.
Judge it as an assistant rather than an agent. Copilot points, it does not act: recommendations link you to the Semrush tool where you do the work yourself, nothing executes on your site, and nothing measures whether following the advice earned traffic. It is also the least chat-like entry here, closer to a smart alert feed than a conversation, and its insights run on Semrush's index of your projects rather than the full depth of your Search Console account.
For teams already living in Semrush, it is the obvious free layer. As a reason to buy Semrush, it is not the product; the suite is.
“If you're paying for Semrush anyway, the Copilot recommendations, AI keyword clustering, and SEO Writing Assistant features add genuine value at no extra cost.”

The default assistant in most practitioners' heads is not a product at all: it is ChatGPT or Claude with a community-built Google Search Console connector. The open-source MCP ecosystem makes this genuinely capable: connectors stream your queries, pages and CTR data into the model, and you ask anything from “find keywords with high impressions but low CTR” to full brand versus non-brand splits. The price is unbeatable: free, or the $20 ChatGPT Plus you may already pay.
Everything else is on you. Setup means API credentials and an MCP config, which filters out most non-technical users. There are no guardrails: the model can misread a metric or apply the wrong date range with total confidence, so every number that matters needs a cross-check. Nothing executes on your site, nothing is measured afterward, and the community's own rule applies double here: put everything through a review queue with one accountable owner.
As a free analysis layer for a technical operator, it is legitimately good, and it is the baseline every paid assistant on this list must beat. That is precisely why vendor MCP pricing matters: this option exists, it costs nothing, and it is one config file away.

The AI SEO assistant category answers a real need for agencies, marketing teams and founders alike: your search data knows what to do next, and a conversation is the fastest way to get it out. But an answer is where these tools end and your work begins, and that is the line to buy on. ChatSEO teaches well and meters the conversation, Semrush Copilot alerts well inside a suite you already pay for, and ChatGPT with a connector analyzes well with zero guardrails. SEOmatic is the one where the conversation has hands: ask, approve, and the fix ships to your CMS, measured against pages left untouched so you know what the answer was worth.
SEOmatic publishes this comparison, and SEOmatic is one of the tools on it, so read our own entry with that in mind. We have tried to earn your trust the only way that works here: every competitor fact comes from that company's own pricing and product pages or from published reviews by their customers, we say where each competitor is the better choice, and we list our own limitations alongside everyone else's.
We do not run competitor products in a lab, and we will not pretend otherwise. What we do is read the pricing page, read the documentation, read the reviews on Trustpilot, Capterra, G2, WordPress.org and the app stores, and quote them with a date attached. Facts on this page were checked on September 08, 2026. Prices change, so check the vendor before you buy.
