SEOmatic for Slack: Approve SEO Changes in Slack
SEOmatic agents find SEO fixes for your sites and stage the ones that need a person's yes. The Slack app puts each of those decisions in front of your team as a card, so the decision happens in the channel you already watch, and the card keeps you posted on what happened next.
An owner of your SEOmatic organization finishes the install, signed in before or after Slack's consent screen. See what data the app uses.
What the Slack App Does
It moves one step of the approval loop into Slack and leaves every safeguard where it was.
A card for every decision
When your agents need a decision, a card lands in the channel for that site: a change waiting for approval, a proposed campaign plan, finished work a safety check or the reviewer held back, or a change that measured worse than before.
Decide in one click
Approve a change or a whole plan, dismiss with a reason (wrong page, not a priority, don't touch this topic, felt too risky), or revert a change that measured worse. Held work is reviewed in SEOmatic, where you can see the draft, and can still be dismissed from the card.
Cards that stay true
Decide in Slack or in SEOmatic and the card updates in place. Its thread follows the change: who decided, when it was applied, whether a run failed or was rolled back, and the measured result against the baseline, taken from the stored evidence.
Only the right people can decide
A click counts only from a member of the connected Slack workspace who has linked their Slack account to a SEOmatic account allowed to approve work on that site. Linking takes one Sign in with Slack, so Slack itself confirms who is clicking. Anyone else in the channel is told why and nothing changes.
Risky changes stay in SEOmatic
Changes that remove pages from Google's index or send their traffic elsewhere (noindex, pruning, redirects, canonicals, merges) are review-only in Slack, and so are plans that contain them. They are decided in SEOmatic, where the exact URL and its consequence are shown first.
App Home and /seomatic
The app's Home tab shows whether SEOmatic is connected, how many decisions are waiting and the top ones with their buttons. Type /seomatic status, /seomatic pending or /seomatic help for the same answers, visible only to you. Before you link your Slack account, a confirmed Slack email that matches your SEOmatic account still shows you what is waiting, with a prompt to link before you decide.
A channel per site, or a digest
Send each site's cards to its own channel and post a test card to check it. Choose one card per decision or one digest message per burst of decisions; a burst of one still arrives as its own card. Urgent cards can mention the site's owner, at most once every six hours, and mentions can be turned off.
Link previews and a weekly report
Paste a link to a SEOmatic task or plan and Slack shows its title, site, status and type, when the person posting it is on your SEOmatic team and the channel is not shared with another company. An optional weekly outcome report per site, off by default, posts the same numbers as the weekly email.
How It Works
- 1
Add to Slack
Click Add to Slack here or in SEOmatic under Settings, then Integrations. If you are not signed in yet, Slack's install screen comes first; you then have an hour to sign in (or sign up and create your organization) and pick the SEOmatic organization to connect. An install nobody connects in that hour is cancelled at Slack. Only an organization owner can finish the install.
- 2
Pick a channel
On Slack's own consent screen, choose the channel the cards should go to and allow the app. On Enterprise Grid, an org admin can install it for the whole org. SEOmatic posts a welcome message with a button to send a test card. If the channel is shared with another company, or is a private channel the app was not invited to, SEOmatic posts nothing there and asks you to pick another channel.
- 3
Decide where you talk
From then on, decisions your agents need show up as cards. Route sites to their own channels in Settings or in the app's Home tab. Each teammate links their Slack account once with Sign in with Slack, the first time they click a card or the test card, and from then on decides from the card. If you installed from SEOmatic while signed in, your own Slack account is linked already.
Who Can Approve
The same people who can approve in SEOmatic. When someone clicks a button, SEOmatic first checks that they are a member of the connected Slack workspace, not someone from another company in a shared channel. It then finds the SEOmatic account they linked with Link your Slack account. Each person links once with Sign in with Slack, so Slack confirms who they are; a matching email alone only helps SEOmatic suggest which account is theirs, and never lets anyone decide. Finally it checks that the account may approve work on that site (or roll back, for Revert). Anyone else gets a short explanation instead.
The same applies to dismissing, approving or dismissing a plan, changing channel routing from the Home tab and sending a test card. Before linking, if the confirmed email on your Slack profile matches your SEOmatic account, the Home tab and /seomatic pending still show what is waiting, with a prompt to link. Members can unlink their own Slack account in Settings, then Account, and the organization owner can remove members' links in Settings, then Integrations.
Cards go to the channel picked at install unless a site has its own channel, so choose channels the people who approve SEO work already read.
Plans
Slack is included on every SEOmatic plan at no extra cost. The organization owner installs it for the whole organization. Deciding from Slack needs an active plan, as in the dashboard. See pricing.
Security and Data
- The app asks Slack for ten permissions: post and update its cards (chat:write, chat:write.public), the channel picker at install (incoming-webhook), people's profiles and email to check who clicked and suggest their SEOmatic account (users:read, users:read.email), the /seomatic command (commands), link previews (links:read, links:write) and channel names (channels:read, groups:read).
- None of them reads message history, so the app cannot read your conversations. Slack sends it only what concerns it: clicks on its buttons, /seomatic commands, visits to its Home tab, links to app.seomatic.ai, channel renames and uninstalls.
- Linking a Slack account uses Sign in with Slack with a single user permission, openid. It tells SEOmatic only your Slack user ID and workspace ID. The sign-in token is revoked right away; only the confirmed link is kept.
- The Slack access token and channel webhook are encrypted at rest.
- Channels shared with another company (Slack Connect) are refused when you pick them, and every card, card update and thread reply checks again first. The check is remembered for up to an hour, so a channel that becomes shared can still get cards for up to an hour. Once it is shared, cards to it pause. A private channel the app cannot see is not used either, because it cannot be checked. If the card channel is archived, deleted or closed to posting, cards to it pause too, and you pick a new channel in Settings, without reinstalling.
- Disconnect in SEOmatic and the token is revoked at Slack and deleted on our side, unless another SEOmatic organization is connected to the same Slack workspace: they share one install, so only your connection and its stored token are removed. Deleting your SEOmatic organization or account revokes it the same way. Uninstall the app from Slack and SEOmatic deletes the stored token too. Either way, cards stop.
What Slack data we collect, how we use and keep it, and how to have it deleted is set out in the Slack section of our privacy policy.
